I have 98 F-150 with a 184,000 miles on 4.6 Triton. It still has plenty of power and doesn't hardly use any oil and doesnt burn it either, but under hard acceleration it tends to give off a pinging noise like it detonating(preignition). Would this be caused by low grade fuel or would it be something else. I usually pu 87 octane in it. Thanx.
Thanx for all the info. Have no idea how old the fuel filter is. Had the truck for a year now but have been too busy with Army life to really do anything with it yet.
Can clogged EGR ports cause pinging from higher combustion chamber temps?
No,the EEC knows the amount of EGR flow, and there are adders for ignition timing when there is EGR flow present. It's not much, but there are some EGR adders dependant on the truck's calibration strategy.
