Hey guys, I got an extra FE distributor just laying around and I tore it all apart, and set the points stuff aside, and took an early 80's 302 distributor(I think that's what it was??) and put the durapark guts in my FE points distributor. It is all back together, and everything seems fine. So I'm going to be wiring it up, w/ the box to my Bronco, so I'll have elcronic ignition. I've done this before on my ranger. it had a points 302, and I found a duraspark 302 and did the switch, but never tried it w/ 2 different dizzys.
I'm just wondering if anyone out there can tell me if there's anything wrong w/ this, or something I may have missed, or any other reason it won't work.
The only possibility I see is the reluctor(?) ring indexing differently. Might have the coil and the rotor out of phase. If the parts all drop in, I think it'll work.
Ya, everything is together, ready to go in the truck...I just need to get the box, and wire everything up. I'll def. let you guys know how it all goes.
BTW, are all the cam gears the same...like from motor to motor. I put the 360 one next to the 302, and it was the same. Same angle on the teeth, same dimensions....everything
I would and all, but I'm not gonna waste any money on a motor I don't care about....the motor is one that someone gave me. it sat outside uncovered for 2 months after they pulled it out of the truck....it had alot of ice in 2 of the cylinders. I took the torch, and heated it all up, and melted all the ice out. you'd be amazed how much water came out! I got it running the other day. it runs pretty good. It's just one of those temporary motors. and I have a bunch of duraspark distributors, because I keep everyone I come across to I can change points over to it!
Hey guys, put that distributor in, and the module, and it run REAL nice....I haven't taken it down the road yet, but it runs 10 times better than it did w/ the points!

Keep us posted on the experiment.
That makes no sense what so ever. As long as you get 8 spark triggers per one rotation of the dist. (2 of the crank) what the hell does it matter what the index is? You change the index every time you move the dist. to set or reset the timing.
