I measured my stroke today to make sure it was a 390 but I just kept getting 4 1/4 inches on the stroke So I think it has to be a 390 just keep thinking my measuring is off some how. IS there another fe with a stroke close to that?
352-360 3.5" 390-427 3.734" 428 3.98" did you forget to remove the 1" from the equation while starting at the 1 on the tape ? putting it at 3.25 +/- .25" ??? No idea think you got something outa whack is that ruler rubber or cloth ?

Yes. The infamous Shelby aluminum 511! Exactly 4 1/4. Doubtful that is what you have though.
In truth, the only way you get a 4 1/4 in a 390 is if someone put in a stroker crank. Not an uncommon thing now days, but still not likely. Describe to us how you are measuring.
I am using a metal rod and minus the depth untill it hits the cylinder and taking it to tdc to the bottom of the stroke but I am thinking I getting it anlged so it is coming out long. But the guy I bought the truck from said it is a pro built 390 about 13 years ago and it still holds great oil psi, compression no smoke and doesnt use any oil. runs like a champ. I am planing on putting a new gasket set on the whole motor and then I will get the chance to look inside to see what condittion it is really in and I will get a acurate measure then. I am confident it is a 390. I doubt I was off enough to lose a full inch. I know she is low geared but in 3rd I can still break the tires loose on dry pavment. lol
I talked to the guy I bought it from today and he said it was a crate motor. Also on a differnt subject I fixed my fuel pump. on the inlet side on the inside of the fuel pump the little rubber o ring had what looked like a pine needle under the seal. Cleaned it out and put it back togather and it workes great now. almost wasted fourty dollars on a new pump. Great things happen when you like to tinker on things ( some times )
