when i put the key in the ignition and i have the fan setting on at least 3 i hear one of the door slap which i am assuming is the blend door? anyway my problem is the heat usually works if the door pops open, but when it does it is hot hot hot. the temp control doesnt work. how can i check if the switch works or not? i cant have it on all the way cold or all the way hot and it just stays on heat, but the fan speed control works and the other switch works to control whether it blows straight out or mixes floor or defrost, so i am assuming its the swith, or hoping anyway.. thanks in advance
Correct, but I think the AC wont function if it is below a certain temp, although I suppose a lack of heat by itself, in Max AC, would confirm. Really in this ridiculous weather you wouldn't know if the AC was working or not...
LACK of heat on Max AC only, would confirm that indeed you blend door is shot, although it sounds pretty certain. I did the "fix", lasted a few weeks and broke again. I can live without the blend **** at this point, I just use the windows more. Max AC should give you cool air in the summer, but like your current situation, you cant blend it.
Hi..i'm new to this site so please bear with me!!! Have the instructions for the blend door fix been moved?? If so, where are they now?? I only have *partial* instructions for it...none of the pics!! Any help would be greatly appreciated!!
Very cool..thanks a bunch for the clean link, I brought it up and was able to look at the pics. I went out and did exactly as the instructions said. The actuator doesn't snap fully back into place, but....I have heat!!!! I'm in Central Mass where it's been 15 degrees for the past week so this helps a lot! When I first turned the actuator dial from cold to hot I heard a clunk then I had heat. When I go back to cold it stays hot. But that's okay!!! I still have cold air in Max AC so that'll help in the summer. Thanks again!!!
I did the blend door fix with the pin. Did not work. The accuator did turn the broken top of the blend door 90 degrees, but still hot only. Is the next step cut the bottom out and replace with new blend door? Or maybe the a/c comp relay switch is the problem?
i only get full stream of air through the defrost ducts (close to the windshield) and not through the main vents (regardless of A/C or heat setting) Is this the same problem that's described here????

No. What you have is a large vacuum leak in the climate control system.

thanks for the pointer. Where should i start looking for the leak? I swear i got the air to come out the main vents the other day on the fan set at MAX -1 notch. Once i went MAX it stopped again and only came out the defrost vents!!

If you pull off the passenger tire and splash guard, you will find the vacuum reservoir tank and from that you can follow all the vacuum lines to check for leaks. If you have the PVH 4x4 system, there will be an additional line between the reservoir and the PVH solenoid, and then from the solenoid to the wheel ends. The reservoir has a built-in check valve that I have heard can fail. I've also heard of the PVH solenoid failing and allowing vacuum to bleed off.
Here's another thread with information on the climate control air flow system:
