hello guys, today i just went to look at 2000 f150 xl with the 4.2 liter v6!
the truck is really clean and it has 103,000 on the clock. i was just wondering how good of a motor the 4.2 v6 is? I currently have an 87 f150 with the 4.9 liter in it, that runs strong. so i was just wondering if im wasting my time? and are there lots of problems with the this motor and drivetrain? etc.
Well one questions to ask yourself is what are you going to use this truck for daily driver any hauling or towing becuase if you do that the 4.2 aint really built for it a little bit but not much the 4.9 is much more of a torque monster many people say so then you would be better to go with atleast a 4.6L but its up to you
Well i dont know a whole lot about these engines but i think they are pretty dependable im pretty sure someone else will chime in and correct me and if its in clean shape low km well maintained and runs well thats a bonus good luck
It's a decent engine for what it is. It's no 300 I6 though. IMO there's no reason not to just go with the 5.4. From what I've heard and experienced, the only real difference is power. MPG between the 4.2, 4.6, and 5.4 is fairly close.
gas mileage isnt the issue here, i wanna know if anybody knows if there are any mechanical problems that goes bad on theses motors? of if they hold up very well?
Try this link first…There is a forum here for these engines. Do some reading and see what you think. It's a better place to start for the answers to the questions you have...Hope this helps. Joe
