Cat Delete.. Verify

I got exhaust lined up I'm bout to order but want to verify that its safe to run with no Cat.. I'm getting a cat delete so if I gotta take it to the dealer I can drop it and throw the cat on..

But I should throw no codes or CEL right?

no i don't see any possible way you could throw a code as there are no 02 sensors on them. so you are only freeing up the exhaust system. the only problem is alot of dealers will refuse warranty work or deny warranty if the cat is removed. so be ready to put stock cat back on for any trips to the dealer

OR you can always just "gut" the cat! It will still be there if they look under to check.

Thats why I got a cat delete pipe.. So I can replace it.. 4 bolts and bam.. I'm also hanging it at both flanges so it only take 1 person to switch it out

Covered that base..

I bought a MBRP cat delete pipe and put it on my stock system and it worked fine. Easy to install and change back. About 15 to 20 minutes lying on the ground. The big gain I noticed right away was the turbo lag was reduced by about 75% and my turbo whine increased to where i could actually hear it a little in the cab. I then installed a turbo back MBRP 409 SS system and used the cat delete pipe. Now I really hear it whine and the turbo lag is still not totally eliminated but I can live with it showing up every once in a while. I have no exhaust codes. The only codes I have are the ones from the EGR connector falling off. Darn thing just keeps popping off.

Pretty soon we will have O2 sensors on ours and if they ever pass the deal for putting on OBD-III computers, as soon as we take out the cat, the transponder on the computer will notify who ever is in charge of regulation of that when we start up the truck and boom instant ticket or citation in the mail. I know they are trying to get that up and running out in Cal., obvious legal issues with it, but I can see it happening sooner then you would think.

I'm running a cat-delete pipe as well, since they're not sniffing diesels here yet (Harris County - Houston, TX).

But like Corp, my old cat is in the garage for the day they do.

As far as the dealer is concerned, I think they could care less.

And not having a cat doesn't do anything to the computer (no sensors), so no code problems.

TX

i have no cat, no muffler, no nothing but 5" from the down pipe back to dual stacks. the problem is at the dealer if you have a vibration in the truck they will blame it on the exhaust because ford has a tsb out on aftermarket exhaust noise. but the biggest problem is that isent suposto pass state inspection with the muffler and cat removed, but a lot of shops dont know any better. i have never had any trouble at the dealer. My truck has been straight piped for months now. As for that tsb on aftermarket exhaust and vibrations, I can see that. My truck has alittle vibration between 73-76mph. I know its the exhaust because i you can hear it get louder at that point. Other than that, it sounds great and I love it.

got a question. bought a 5in cat back system from mbrp. Now i want it louder. Everything in front of the cat is stock. Will the 4in cat delete pipe still fit if i wanted to remove the cat. I want to be able to pop it back on because a lot of the dealers around here didn't like the idea of it missing.

If you have to put it back is it an easy job? I want to do this but if I have to take it back for warranty work I need to put it back.

a few posts above, dsmmh mentioned it is very easy to do, 15-20 minute job.

i'm going to do this, this coming spring, too cold out there right now and no garage yet at this house. i plan on keeping the stock system, and taking off the cat and the muffler. i don't have any tuners or anything else, so i think running with the 3.5" stock exhaust will be a great improvement over what i have now with the cat and muffler installed.

That is what I want to do. Keep the stock exhaust and later get a programmer. I work outside and when I get home you can't get me away from the wood stove! No way will I work on the truck until it is 55 degrees out side!

Hey guys, I have nothing against mods, I think there great but if you want to poison yourself just close the garage door when you run the cat deletes and let the rest of us breath whats left of good air.
