[updated:LAST EDITED ON 11-Dec-02 AT 01:07 PM (EST)]I bought this truck about 3 weeks ago and replaced the batery and it started up. I let it sit for a few weeks while I was getting it registered and everything. I started it once between then and today. I went to start it today and it would not turn over. The battery is charged and the starter just isn't getting a chance to turn over I tried hitting it a few times. I replaced the starter silinoid today and still no luck turning over it just clicks while I turn the key. Does anyone have any ideas what it could be. let me know if you need more details or anything. Thanks for the help Shaun
im having the exact exact same problem with my bronco at home. the only thing i still have to check is the in line fuse going to the alternator. i tried replacing the solenoid as well. let me know if tapping the starter works.
Well I figure I'm going to go ahead and replace the starter over the weekend and see how that goes. Thanks for the help everyone. Have a great holiday. Shaun
best is to hit the starter while someone is cranking the motor up. I had a K5 blazer, and an old ford tempo that I had starter problems with. I would had a tire iron and a screwdriver in the engine compartment at all times. I would turn the key and if it didn't start, I would leave the key in the "RUN" position and pop the hood. Trip the starter solenoid(CAREFULLY) while I hit the starter at the same time. I did this for almost 3 months on my ford before I had to up and replace the starter...although the starter for the Tempo was about $230 at the time(Junkyard was $40)
If It still doesn't work...you know it may be something else.
Mine was making an awful grinding noise when starting up then evetually stopped starting up at all. So I grabbed a new starter and replaced it. It works great now. When I took my old starter off, I noticed all the gears that mesh with the flywheel were pretty much completely stripped.
