Don't know if others have a bronco with the same situation i do but here i go. I have an 81 with the 351m and C-6 tranny, the truck is in PERFECT working order.
My problem is this:
Why in the heck is the fan on the engine SOOOO loud?
Once i hit around 45mph all i can here is the roar of the fan on the engine, and the freeway doing 70mph is almost deafing, even though the engine is only pulling around 2,200rpm I know this is not the only vehicle to have loud fans, I have had them on late 80's toyota pickups before, but I have never had one in any of my 8 diffrent fords I have had.
Is it possible to change the fan with a diffrent style or later style bronco fan, or is there something i can do or modify with the fan shroud to make it quieter??? It's absoultly aggrivating how loud the fan gets in the truck and embarissing because it sounds like a huge vacumm cleaner.
Any help would be great, i Know im not the onlyone to have this problem.
have you ever considered going to an electric fan with a switch or a thermostat setup? this may somewhat improve fuel mileage as well since h.p. isn't being used from the engine to turn the fan.....

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 27-Dec-02 AT 11:49 PM (EST)]An electric fan STILL uses engine hp to turn - it just pulls it thru the alternator, pushes it thru wires & switches, and then spins up a motor to do it. Nothing is free, and everything on your truck gets its power from the fuel you burn.
sounds like the fan clutch is siezed. check to see if you can spin it with the engine NOT running.did you just get the truck or did this just start? maybe the previous owner removed the fan clutch
I will check the fan clutch tonight, I was wondering if it is the problem, however the truck has always sounded like a vaccum cleaner since I have had it, also it has no overheating problems or anything of that nature and I live in vegas.
It does sound like that could be the problem cause now that i think about it, if it is sezied then it would turn at the full engine rpm all the time instead of the clutch deciding the fan rpm.
