I am thinking of buying a copy of desktop dyno so that I can play around with different options for my '69 Bronco motor build and stop bugging DanLee. Anyway, I saw that there were several different flavors. I don't think that I want to fork out the cash for DynoSim, but what is the difference between Desktop Dyno and Desktop Dyno basic? Or, do I need to pony up the coin and get dynosim?
What I am looking to do is look at different cam/head/CR combos for both the 400 as well as a 351W and a 393W. Which software package is the best for what I am trying to do?
I have Dyno Sim plus their Cam Data Sim with nearly 4,000 cam files.
This delivered to the door came to $203.
There is a Pro Data Sim also but more money.
Russ runs a 3A (guessing correct name) which nails it with more information towards racing.
If you screw up which I did at the start you'll have some hp numbers to smile about but not close to reality.
You can spend hundreds of hours with these programs but I nailed my build exactly for what I intended and this was 19 years ago.
I have Dyno Sim and the Cam data, and also Desktop Dyno 2000 with Cam data. I like Dyno Sim a little better, because it gives a bit more information than DD 2K. However you can get good results with either, it all depends on the information that you supply.
Remember, 'GIGO' which means Garbage In Garbage Out!
the cam data is a database of various available cams from several common manufacturers. you can always tweak any of the parameters for any cam and save it as another cam file. dynosim also has an iterator function that can find optimal cam parameters for most torque or hp within 500 rpm of current tq or hp peak...
packlet; a friend of mine has a newer cam data that has many more new cams from major manufactures that I don't have. It becomes a PITA getting these specs vs altering a older cam spec.
Yes I know about altering or building a custom cam for the hp and tq i'm
looking for in a odd build. Thanks anyway.

danlee; on your Dyno Sim Cam Data have you recieved new or added cam profile upgrades to your Cam Data after your purchase?
No, I only have the initial Cam data distribution. There are not many new cams for 335 series motors. My last two cams were custom HR cams. I used the iteratation feature on Dyno Sim to find a cam with a wide torque band for my 434 build. Unfortunatly the LSA for that cam was 117.5 degrees, and I couldn't get that ground without going to an expensive billet core. I had Comp Cams ground a cam with similar lobes on 114 degree LSA. The downside of that is more overlap, than the 117.5 degree LSA, but I can live with that.
Nothing wrong with running off brand (chebbie and Dodge) cam specs
on a FE build.
Heck I run numbers with Buick cams with good results, it's
intresting to alter a given cam spec.
Granted a shelf cam is a lot cheaper than a custom grind.
Eric, your up late tonight.

Wow nice of you to start her car and get the interior warm send her off then go to bed, I like that. Years ago when I hurt my back I felt guilty when the wife left to work for 6 weeks, forced myself to work but this was a bad idea that i'm now paying for in pain.
I have Desktop Dyno Basic, Dyno SE version 2.8.6, and a demo for dyno sim. Dyno basicand dyno se 2.8.6 do not always have the same torque numbers becaue syno se 2.8.6 has inputs for standard flow dual plane and single planes while dyno baisc has dual plane max torque, standard flow, high flow dual plane, and max flow dual plane. standard flow single plane, high flow single plane and maximum flow as well as a couple fo tunnel rams, sequencial and tuned port injection. As for the dyno sim demo I like it because it is highly tuned with eleven levels for lifter accelleration rate. My demo has different characteristics for intakes than dyno baisc which is a little confusing. I am consideing upgrading to desk top dyno for $40 ro buying dyno 2000 from ebay currently at $14 with one day four hours left.
