First, this place is awesome! OK, after hours of searching and reading and blah, blah, blah, I am going to start collecting parts for an intercooler on my '97. A guy I work with told me today he wrecked his 250 recently. Not sure which year, but I know its a 6.0. The i/c was damaged but the pipes are probably ok, at least most of them. My question that I didn't really see addressed anywhere(directly anyway) is can I use the 6.0 pipes or not? or maybe even a portion thereof to make the final set. I haven't purchased anything yet so if its "as long as ..." then that may be possible. I know we need the early '99 y-pipe or spider but I think pipes don't matter, please verify or set me straight. Thanks in advance.
While I'm at it, I have a couple of tranny coolers(factory + aftermarket) in front of rad/ac cond. right now. will I stiil have room between grill and i/c or even bt i/c and cond.? I just don't want to lose them all together thats all. Thanks again, I'll shut up now.
your ducting air from point a to point b. the boost pressure is virtually identical thruout the duct work unless you make a radical change in pipe diameter. its a good idea to insulate the "cool" side tubing and watch for engine torque clearance to nearby lines fittings and connectors.
remember, turbos "suck", up size your intake tubing, turbo will spoolup quicker...
are the diameters or the ends of the tubes any different between the 6.0 and 7.3, or bends themselves different enough to where I can't use 6.0 tubes? Thanks for the bigger intake tubing idea, I hadn't thought about it but makes perfect sense.
6.0 tubing is a really different lay out. some ahve used some of the bends in them to modify superduty 7.3 piping. that is really the best way to go I think. 7.3 or 6.0 cooler will work. 6.0 is bigger and better and usually doesn't cost any more. There is a guy ebay called "gobanks" and he has take off coolers and piping for cheap. you have to tell him you want the piping, boots, and clamps.
