The latest I heard from a friend who works in powertrain at ford told me (but has been very vague) the they are working around the clock to launch the 09 early, hopefully in 08 as GM and Toyota are going to have a very big effect on their sales.
Tranny will be a 6 speed and engine choices will be a 6 cylinder, 6.2 V8 and a 4.4 liter diesel. If memory serves me correctly, the diesel is from range rover...
The expedition will also get the diesel option as well...
Probably the same basic tranny as what's in the Expedition right now. Not stupid at all, I don't think they really have a choice. If you ask me, it should already be in them.
I will wait and purchase a new F150 S-Crew 4x4. I'm selling my ol 7.3 Diesel because of fuel costs/MPG and was against getting another "BIG F250 Diesel" because of those 2 reasons.
However, if this new (smaller) Diesel gets into the 150 w/maybe a 6 speed auto I'm sure MPG should easly hit the +mid 20's. Then, I'll take another Diesel.
Just curious, where do you live? Just asking to gauge how much more diesel is over gas in your town. Also, what's your average mileage?
I fill up in NJ and diesel is about 10% higher than unleaded. Also, I went from a V-10 to a 6.0 and my mileage went from 10-12 to 18 to 20 so I am really pleased...
I am really excited about the possiblity of a diesel in the Expedition, for my wife.

I'm located in Glenolden Pa. just over the Walt Witman Br. and just S. of the Internationa Airport, few minutes off I-95.
Diesel prices around me are sick, once again hitting close to $3.00 gallon. Regular grade gas is at $2.25 that also jumped but not as bad a Diesel.
When ever I visit my family (usualy once a week) in Mays Landing NJ I alway FILL up which ever vehicle I'm griving from my Vette, Toyota, or Diesel. I filled the Vette up yesterday with Premium $45.00 but that's still some .35 cents lower then here in my area for Prem.
It makes me sick and mad to see Diesel higher then Premium grade Gas. Sometimes .30 cents a gallon or more higher!
My Ford is the older 7.3, no Turbo, no overdrive and I'm in the 12 mpg range all the time, towing or not and around town driving. Some 7.3's w/overdrive or Manual trannys are getting much better.
I remember back in the late 80's when i purchased my 7.3 Ford, Diesel was ALWAYS much lower than Regular grade gas...those days are gone.
PS if you're getting 18-20 mpg out of a new Ford 6.0 Diesel...you're the ONLY one I know of. Because most are lucky to be getting 10-15 non towing. The Duramax owners are the only ones I know of that are even close to the high teens...and they may be some "Big Fish" stories.

The new grill looks more like a SD grill than a fusion style ( at least in person). Nothing new with 7 lug rims, they are used now on the heavy duty package 150's.
Why would Ford work with Volvo to develop a new 4.4L Diesel, when they already worked with International Truck and Engine to develop the 4.5L V6 Diesel that is currently being used in the LCF trucks?!
I believe Ford was originally looking to offer that engine in the Excursions and maybe Expeditions, and then some F-series trucks. These are the same people who brought us the Power Stroke line of diesels, and the latest rendition seems to work pretty good.
I agree that Ford really needs to get a tranny that can still handle the power/torque, but that will save on fuel. Everyone else seems to be running 5 or 6 speed trannies, but Ford has been slow to catch on.
I'm currently selling my toy (a heavily modded 1990 T-bird SuperCoupe), and I'm hoping to pick up a new or slightly used F-150 Lariat or FX4 SC 4x4 with a 5.4L later this Summer or early this Fall.
I'd be pissed too if I bought the truck at this point (an '07 or '08), and then Ford brought out a redesigned model for '09.
HUH!? I swapped out the honeycomb one on my 04 XLT with one of those. That grill is nothing new.
What i meant by that comment Monsta, was Ford admitted in a press release that the focus styling was so popular that they changed the grill on the 500 to look like the focus grill, hence my comment, "Ford is putting that 3 bar grill on everything."

I dont see anything wrong with the Fusion grille. I kind of like seeing some universal design cues across the board on the various Ford vehicles. I guess it gives them a stronger sense of brand identity.
Also, judging by the lack of "fit and finish" with the bumper in those pics, maybe they are experimenting with a new frame.
I can imagine that the overall look of the new design will take a lot of cues from the new Expy design, which I dont think is all that bad myself.
ya the new expy's look big and mean from the front, but my only concern is how do you put a custom grille on it, it looks like it is part of the truck itself
