Hi guys I just recently found this forum when looking for info on converting to disk brakes in my 1966 ford long bed with a 289 and 4 speed. Other plans for the truck include power steering, 460/c-6 combo, power windows, shaving body lines, lowering, mustang gas tank under the bed, 4 link rear suspension. So far i have been doing body work mostly. I did install a universal power door lock kit, and made custum kick panels. If any one has any advise for me that would help out I would appreciate it. I would like to get it lower then 3 inch dropped i beams will allow, without welding in a subframe.
thanks
Welcome aboard! It sounds like quite a project list. The only advice I have is to write down what you want to do and make a list of the small jobs involved to get the big jobs finished and just keep working. It sounds like it'll be a sweet truck when it's finished.
I agree with magee, I would also suggest documenting and photo shoot your progress add to gallery when you can. Even though your new to this site, it sounds like you know what your doing. As your work progresses you'll be giving advise to all of us who plan these upgrades just have'nt gotten a "ROUND-TO-IT."
One of theses days I'm going o get me a "ROUND-TO-IT" Good luck take it slow.

Welcome, you have found the right place. Did you buy that '66 with the 289? I ask this because the 289 was never used in an F Series truck...it must look lost in that mammoth engine bay and under that huge hood.
You can post all the info off your VIN plate (on drivers door below latch), and it can be decoded for you.
Welcome aboard.I would recommend that you drive it around a bit before working on it.Get it mechanically sound and then decide where to go with it.The disc brake and power steering are just a 73-78 donar truck away.Do a search, tons of info here..Good luck on the project!

I got the truck for $200 out of an inpound yard. It had the 289 and 4 speed granny transmition. I have owned it almost a year. After researching the vin I discovered it originally came with a 352 and c4 combo. The 289 does look tiny in thier. But it is a fun peppy engine. Im not sure what they pulled the 289 out of. It has a stock 4 barrel intake on it.
On the subject of power brake and steering i found a 74 in the junk yard with all the parts to get those jobs done. I am hopeing to make it over thier in the morning if I have time. I was told I could use the power steering box from a 70s truck as long as I got the column to.

The original automatic transmission would have been a Cruise-O-Matic, not a C-4. C-4's were used with 260/289's from that era, and never appeared in an F Series.
200 bucks?!!!!! Sweet! That is a heck of a score. I'm kinda jealous.Oh, and the wife ALWAYS has other plans. But what can you do? They do put up with our insanity.

Bill, Do you have any idea why that confusion keeps it's head reared? I see over and over C4 tranny when the C-O-M was the only auto offered for this series.
You are the parts number go to guy, maybe you have some insight.
