To not have the proper assembled stem height will throw the rocker geometry out as well the pressure contact point on the valve stem, this will lead to more side force for more stem and guide wear than necessary. When a shop grinds valves they should of dressed the stems for the proper and equal stem heigth, should they be hardened tip and ground thru lash caps are installed.

which crane rockers did you have trouble with? i just got a set of the ductile adjustables but have not installed them yet. i also just got the edelbrock aluminum heads for my 390 has anyone tried this combination?

That would be their roller tip aluminum rockers.
