What year 302 is it? They were adjustable on the early versions. The nuts are self locking and may need to be replaced if they are backing off. On the adjustable type just get the cylinder you are adjusting on TDC and run the nuts down until they there is no play in the valve train. Then turn then 3/4 of a turn more if you are using the stock cam and lifters.
If they are rail guided rockers you need to compare the top of the valve stem and rocker face with one that is still clearanced properly to see if there is a lot of wear.

Try checking the rocker studs, compared to the others with a straight edge. My press in studs started to pull out once. I pulled those studs out, and reinstalled them with a hammer, and red loctite. Probably not the correct way, but it was easy, and it worked.
