New guages
New guages
Do you have any pics of the gauges now that there complete? I've been thinking about redoing my guage cluster. All the lights are starting to die on the instrument panel and it has crossed my mind to just customize the whole thing. Also what color are the lights and can you change the color on them?

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 24-Nov-02 AT 11:03 PM (EST)]These are the ones I put in http://www.procarparts.com/store/displaydetails.cfm?pid=FD-F150-8791-RIG-WT The kit comes with a dial that adjusts the brightness and a switch that changes the colors from blue to green. They also have this one http://www.procarparts.com/store/displaydetails.cfm?pid=FD-F150-8791-SIG-T2 but I thought it looked too much like the factory guages
These guages use their own power supply, you have to tap into your headlight switch and ground it.

It wasn't hard at all. Basically you have to take apart the drivers side dash by removing the ***** for the headlight and wiper switches https://www.ford-trucks.com/dcforum/DCForumID97/3362.html Then use a flathead screwdriver to remove the lower left wood grain dash piece. Then there is a bold that holds on the lower right wood grain piece, take that off. After that is done you can start to take apart the upper wood grain dash piece (the one that holds the drivers side vents). There are two bolts on the top, and I think five on the bottom. After that is off there are about 8 or so bolts that hold on the clear plastic piece that is over your gauges. Then there are about 5 bolts that hold on the black piece that seperates your guages, take those out and you are in business. There is no need to take out your old gauges, but on your tach there are three tiny screws in the middle, and two on the speedo. Take those out (I couldn't get all of them out, they strip easily). Then slide the guages in over the needles through the holes in the middle of the new gauges(don't take off the needles!). Then reinstall the small screws for the tach and speedo. Before you put it back together apply your parking brake to make sure that everything is aligned (so when the dash light comes on for the high beams, parking brake, it will shine through the new gauges).
After all that now it is time to tap into your headlight switch. Undo the bolts that hold the switch in and pull it out. Tap into the Brown wire, and then ground the other wire. Put everything back on and you are done. Find a place to mount the switch and enjoy your new gauges.
while I was installing these I had to tilt my steering wheel a lot and move the shifter in and out of gear (got in the way)
tools needed-
1/4 ratched with extention
3/16 & 1/4 sockets
Wide tip flathead srewdriver (for removing wood grain trim pieces)
Phillips screwdriver (you know those tiny ones)
Electrical conector (I don't know the name of the one I used, but it was the type that cuts into the wire)

Now I can understand leaving the guages in there but forgive me if I sound retarded but you do remove the old faceplates right? I just want to make sure, I don't want to do all the work and realize that I messed it all up. Thanks for all your answers.
