I've had my 06 fx4 screw at the dealer at 3,000 miles to get the rotars...now at 9,000 miles it's juddering again. I took it to the dealer and they said they were fine. Any one having rotar problems?
The rotors are not 'fine' if you're having a 'pulsation' when hitting the service brake, particularly if that's the only time you get the vibration. Did they resurface the rotors before or replace them? In a case like this, you have to make them drive the vehicle with you in it to see if it will vibrate with brake application. If it does, and they want to resurface the rotors again, you have to insist on new rotors. It will keep happening. One thing to check as a possible cause - a bad tire or bent wheel. Either one can throw the rotor against the brake pads on every revolution because of the necessary play in the wheel bearings. This wears the rotor unevenly and causes the pulsation. They have to check both (all) rotors for excessive runout or uneven wear with a dial indicator before pronouncing them 'fine'. They also have to verify that the rotor surface is even on both sides with no galled areas which could catch the pads, and that there is no contamination from a lubricant. By the way, do you spray anything on your wheels/tires that could get on the rotors? Some substances (like silicone tire shine)could cause your problem.
I don't spray any thing on the tires. They resurfaced them the first time and the second time said nothing was wrong. It's driving me crazy. The guy did say some thing about a tsb on certain rotars when I called to book the apt. When I picked the truck up he said he didn't know any thing about a tsb. are others having this problem?
Aloha to all, The Dealer here in Kona, Hawaii replaced my Roters, Calipers and pads due the same problem. Works fine now. And yes there is a TSB on this problem. I'm not sure what years it covers. Mine is a 04 SCAB 4X4 Lariot.
The only cure for brake judder is new rotors. Turning them won't help, as once warped, they'll never be true again. If some of you have had the rotors replaced, and the problem returned, it's an easy answer. The rotors Ford is using are no good.
The cure is..ceramic pads and a different set of rotors...not the ones Ford is using. You can bet Ford is aware of the problem, meaning dealers are too. But since Ford has no new rotors to cure the problem, the dealer will give y'all the run around.
Back in 1986, the Taurus/Sable experienced the same problem. By 1992, Ford had changed the rotor part number 4 times, but never really cured the problem.
In many cases, as NumberDummy has pointed out, turning the rotors often accelerates the "warping" problem since the rotor becomes thinner than the allowable tolerances.
You may want to verfiy whether the lug nuts were torqued to the correct values, as this should not happen after only 9000 miles of driving.
Members of FTE who are also owners of the F250 / F350 Superduty 4WD as well as the Excursion 4WD have had good results in the past with ART's gas-port slotted, cryogenically treated brake kits (including performance pads) in eliminating dreadful rotor warpage.
this is the first ford I've ever owned. I traded in a titan b/c of so many problems with breaks and poor quality. Looks like I"m back in the same boat. This will probably be my last ford I own.
I don't have a problem with my 06. Try call in Ford customer care or go to another dealer. If you going to get rid of your truck because of brake problems, be sure not to buy any other vehicle. Every vehicle has some kind of problem. I don't care if it's a Ford or a Ferrari.
no spammer here. Just went through hell and back on a titan with brake/rotar problems. Just want the ford/dealership to fix the problem........It's an easy fix if they would just do it instead of giving me the run around. I'll call ford cust.care and see if they can help me.
Took my 2004 Screw 4X4 in last week for pulsation as the dealer called it. My warranty was almost up. I called 6 months ago and dealer said to wait as Ford would only turn rotors 1 time under warranty. Ended up they repalced rotors, pads and calipers. No charge. Wow what a difference it made.
I took my truck back in for the 3rd time 2 weeks ago. They turned the roters for the second time. I called ford customer care. They said that I would have to have them turned 3 times before they would intervine. The dealership said the same thing before they could replace them.
Todays trucks and it really doesn't matter which manufacturer built it, have issues with warping rotors.
The way I see it. You've got choices. Live with the problem, play games at the dealership your going to, try another dealer (shut up about the previous brake work) or the route I'm going to go when the brakes act up on my 07. Buy aftermarket pads and rotors that make the problem go away.
A few bucks out of my pocket for peace of mind by not having to play the dealers games is worth it. At least to me.
They just replaced my rotors, pads and calipers without me having to even suggest it. Service manager called and told me it was done and what they had done and that Ford had a service bulletin out on the problem. I was afraid I was going to have to yell and scream but they just replaced everything. By all the posts I have read it appears that a lot has to do with each individual dealer. Otherwise you would think that Ford would either turn the rotors or replace them. Seems like the fix is real inconsistant. All I can say is it took care of the probllem.
Ther is a TSB on rear E brake..i own a 04 f150 . your problem sounds the same that I had .. same issues with ford.. so i pulled the rear tires myself..found out it was the E brake control piece that is at the top of the shoes..it would stick...so when your truck would heat up..they would grab the inside of the rotors.as if you were using the E brake ..causing vibration..they had to open the HOLE a bit on the control piece. an greased it .works find..good luck......
