ever since day 1 when i make a hard stop i had a vibration when braking - heard i need to put bigger rotars on also change calipers - asaked FORD about this and they said it would have to be aftermarket rotars and calipers - has anyone heard of doin this ???
Mine did that also and I needed to have the OEM rotors machined by ford twice. Are you still under the factory bumper to bumper (Or extended) warranty? If so, they should machine them if they can or replace. I've needed to have mine machined twice under warranty under 36k miles. You can go aftermarket, though they shouldn't really do this from the factory.
Your front rotors are warped.
You don't need bigger rotors or different calipers, you simply need to either have the rotors you have turned or to replace them. The calipers are fine. If your truck is under warranty, I'd let Ford handle it. My front rotors have been mildly pulsating for the last few thousand miles and it finally got the best of me last week and I replaced my front rotors with new Powerstop brand rotors and Wagner ThermoQuiet ceramic brake pads. I considered having my original rotors turned but at 93,000 miles decided the smart money was to simply replace them. From Rock Auto I paid about $180 for the parts and I did the work myself Saturday morning.
Smooth like butta now..........
Don't waste your time having the rotors turned, they'll just warp again. I have the same Power Stop drilled and slotted rotors with Hawk ceramic pads. They have over 40Kmiles on them and are doing fine. It also feels like I gained about 20% more stopping power.
I had mine turned under warranty at about 25K miles. I now have 67K miles and it's been pulsating for a few thousand miles as well. They won't be turned again, they'll be replaced when the pads need replacing.
hello DAVID - FORD told me they would do the job if i got the rotors and pads also said i needed to put calipers also of course it is cause i had said i wanted bigger rotors - just didn`t understand why they wouldn`t get the stuff - i guess it wouldn`t be bad goin with next size rotors - has anyone done that ??
Stan, I believe that if you're using your truck like a 1/2 ton truck should be used (not overloading it or trying to roadrace it etc....) that a good aftermarket pair (or set, if you want to upgrade all 4 wheels) of stock sized rotors and upgraded brake pads will make you happy. "Next sized" rotors (which I assume you mean larger diameter), calipers and pads to fit are going to be MUCH more expensive....if they are even available and/or fit in your wheels.
Unless you have 20" wheels I'm pretty sure you will need larger diameter rims to fit larger rotors. Here is a 6 piston caliper kit from Wilwood: Wilwood Disc Brakes - Search Wilwood Brake Kits
