Emergency towing

Okay... so i decided it's time for another dumb post.. cuz i seem to feel the urge to make them once in a while... my question... where would be the best place to attach a tow lead on your truck to pull another vehicle out with? a frame rail or close to the differential? or wha?

I would say frame rail. (Assuming you don't have a hitch/reciever on your truck). Using the differential or axle would not be recommended, as the brake lines might be damaged.

I use the receiver hitch on my truck for pulling from the rear or the factory tow hooks on the front. I did have a bit of a problem with pulling with the hitch though this spring. I tried to remove a 79 F150 from a mud hole and in the process I broke the chain (which ended up peppering my tailgate, tail light and side of the bed) and it bent the receiver and pushed the bumper up. $1,100 later and its good as new!

I'd go around the frame just in front of the bumper:

Sorry for my crappy drawing...the [] is the frame rail and the ___ is the bumper, I'd go from the bottom, around the top of the frame rail, and then out from under the bumper on the opposite side if that makes sense, so I'd have two seperate straps running out the back. I'd put one around each frame rail seperately.

Put a couple of blankets, coats, something on the straps.

If you have a receiver hitch, definetly go around it. The I'd also have no problem just going around the bumper if it was a smaller car.
