I bought a bunch of new OEM Ford truck parts from a company that sold off their fleet. All the parts are supposed to be for the 87-96 F series trucks. They all have the Ford part numbers, but this BW transfer case only has this info:
part number 1756-000-002. Can anyone tell me what it is supposed to fit. It is new "old stock". I haven't been able to find anything on the net.
tag is broke off on my 13-56, but if you look at the casing, front side between tranny hookup and front driveshaft mount, it is cast into the housing, borg warner and underneath should say 13-56 or possibly 13-45

You need to find a: Ford# to Vendor#/Vendor# to Ford# cross reference book.
Basic Ford part number for a T/C Assy is: 7A195
This info can be found in select Ford parts books/microfiche (and current Ford books on CD & DVD).
Your local Ford Dealer's parts dept has these refs.
I checked the only one I have 1973/79: Found nothing, sorry.

Thank you for the help everybody. Here is what I have. The steel tag on the transfer case says C2892 and 1756-000-02 and 15' 20. There is also a paper bar code that says 1756-02. There are several casting numbers that start out with 13-56. I had heard that the 1756 was an improved 1356, but I have no idea if this is true. Does anybody know what this transfer case is? It is manual shift. I have photos, but can't figure out how to post them.
I am still a little confused as to the application of the case. Is this supposed to fit the 87-96, or is it a specialty application? This is a manual shift case.

Ford transfer cases generally have a 6 bolt mounting flange. If it has that it should bolt up to any of the 4wd transmissions with the 6 bolt tailshaft housing.
I would also guess you have a BW1356. This catalogue has exploded diagrams of Ford transfer cases on pp 197-225. Maybe you can match up what you have with one of the pictures?

You emailed me about the 1756 case ID. I had purchased what I thought was a 1356 case with a fixed rear output yoke from a distributor. The case had a lot of backlash so I contacted Borg Warner directly. I dealt with one of thier engineers about the problem. He agreed to send me a case with the backlash spec verified and I sent him the bad one. The invoice from Borg Warner called it a 1756. The metal tag also had 1756 stamped on it. From what I learned from Borg Warner, the 1756 is the same as a 1356 except for the fixed rear output yoke. This is how their numbering system differentiates between the different styles. I installed the case in my 89 F150 with the AOD transmission. Hope this helps.
