While working on my truck today I noticed how sloppy the transfer gear shift was. I got to looking at the service manual and it shows that it has a bushing on either side of the bolt going through the shift lever along with a washer between the bushing and transfer case. My question is where to get the bushings. The manual doesn't show any part numbers of course.
I was looking last night and found a thread that NumberDummy had replied to. I think that I've found a new set, if they are the correct ones. It's worth a $5 gamble.
Grab a set of calipers or wrenches that will fit the shaft and something that fits the hole it goes through. Get some flanged bronze bushings and a bronze thrust washer. PM me and I should be able to come up with something if it is imperial dimensions and not millimetric.
Rich I appreciate your help. After having time to search the old threads, I found a old thread with the updated part number. I called Blue Springs Ford and they actually have two in stock. I'll pick them up on Monday since I'm passing through before they open and after they close.
You do know about the Advanced Search option right? Do you see the blue line with User CP, Albums, FAQ? See the SEARCH on that line? It has a drop down search menu arrow, go to the "Advanced Search" option, top left side (search block) type in there what you are looking for and then go to the lower right column and highlight 73-79 forum. Select it and then you will have a detailed search just in the 73-79 forums.
I know about the advanced search. I was being impatient and wanting the quick answer. During the week it's sleep, eat and work. I don't have a lot of down time to spend on the computer.
Rich I found the same thing when I was looking. When I picked up the bushings I asked the parts guy about it, he said a graphite based lube. He added that it's not the dry type. I am going to O'Reilly's and see what they've got.
