i have a big problem i snaged a really good deal for a truck it is a 76 ford f150 with a new 460 in it and a automatic trany. the only thing i need is to put the transfer case in. the person i bought the truck off of has a transfer case he hasn't put in it but it is devorced and i need a drive shaft for in between the trany and the transfer case and the bracket to hold the transfer case i need a shifter for the transfer case to but u can't find anything any where do u know what i can do or where i can find one or all of the parts or at least get a model # the the transfer case??
any parts or help in the info department whould be a great help u guys are my last resort!!! the only numbers i could get off the transfer case where ( c-11865 and c-11871 )
ps if u want i'll put some pic on the web of parts!!
It's most likely a New Process (either 205 or 208). There should be a plate on the front with the model. If there's no plate, look for the NP logo. It's a gear with NP in the middle and it's cast into the housing. It may also be a Borg Warner.
Check out these pix of my NP205. It's a married case but the only difference is the front (middle pic) input shaft would have a bigger housing instead of the little alum. one. The shift linkage might differ as well.
it defininetly has gears in it and it weigh's a ton (well not quite).
it does have a np in. so i'm taking it is a 205 ??? the next thing i need to know is where i can get the short driveshaft or is there a way around it?
and in your mind do u guys think this is a good transfer case??
I weighed my 205 on the bathroom scale and learned two things. 1) it weighs 141.5 lbs. without lube, and 2) wives don't like gear lube on bathroom scales.
The only way around using the short shaft it is to convert it to a married case. However, that requires the right input housing, different tranny tail section, different front and rear drive shafts, and a lot of messin' around. I'd check the boneyards in the area for a similar truck. Also, check the classifieds on this site for guys "parting out" trucks.
Try to find someone with that same setup and get the length of the shaft. That'll help.
