I believe that would be for the tach sensor which would normally go into the big plug you have there on the bottom right side of the picture, (drivers side of the IP gear cover).
I'm interested in putting a tach in my truck so I was hoping that the female plug in the picture was in fact for the tach sensor. Since it appears that I have the tach wiring in place it would now just be a matter of purchasing the tach sensor and an instrument cluster with the factory tach and I should be in business. Seems too easy. How much does the tach sending unit cost?
Even though the wiring is in place, the insturment cluster on a non tach truck does not have the wiring circuits to install a tach.
All this means is you must swap the entire insturment cluster into your truck.
Salvage yards are the only sorce for the insturment cluster, Ford has discontinued the tach and cluster.
Once you have the cluster, it is a plug and play swap though, plug in the cluster, plug in the sensor and you are ready to play.
I just had a thought, LMC may have the cluster, I never looked.
