I believe, someone correct me if I'm wrong, that the SD setup is a single connector and a little more reliable.
It is. And the updated style has a single connector on the outside; no more connector on the inside under the valve cover. Even more reliable.

Reliability, cleans up the wiring a little, and because the SD style is MUCH LESS prone to burning out like the OBS style. And because you can get a full kit from RockAuto for $120 for both gaskets and pigtails. All you need to supply is a soldering iron, and heat shrink.
The SD style has bigger pins so they won't get hot enough to melt the connector.
I would highly recommend buying Ford parts for this. Sometimes the aftermarket ones have problems with connectivity. That can cause misses and just generally a bunch of headaches trying to track it down. You can get everything you need from Clay at Riffraff Diesel minus the soldering and heat shrink. (Plus its $100 cheaper to buy Ford SD harnesses vs. Ford OBS harnesses.)
Ok, fellas, I'm replacing my passenger side valve cover gasket because the internal connector looked like this:
(as the old saying goes; "Well there's your problem!")

It's a miracle my injectors were getting any power. But now I have a bit of a new problem. My original injector connectors looked like this:

My new ones have a wire retainer and look like this:

When I try to clip the wire down, the wire pops out at the hinge point. Here's a picture of that happening:

Do I have this connector on backwards or something where I'm trying to clip it down wrong? I don't want this wire retainer popping off and ending up floating around the engine somewhere. I need to finish this today because we're getting snow tomorrow. I'd like to get this done so I don't end up using this tool on it:
You have to bend those metal clips down a little to get them to hold on. Also, they don't use the rubber pieces, so if you have those in there, take them out.
