Cool Broken Brake Bleeder nipple

Today I started to bleed my brake lines by first installing Speed Bleeders onto the calipers. I got 3 of the 4 off and bled off most of the Brake Fluid, But my luck ran out when I broke the last bleeder nipple. I had soaked the nipple in penetrating oil for quite awhile, but it would not come off. (front passanger side)

Now that it has broken off, what are my options?? It not leaking (yet), so do I just leave it the way it is, or do I remove the caliper and take it into a shop?? Has anyone had this happen to them, and what did you do to correct it? And how much did it cost?

Before

Before I pulled the caliper and so on - I'd be really tempted to screw an easey out into that sucker and haul on it till it comes out - then just replace the bleed nipple.

I'd even apply a little heat from a butane torch maybe while working the easey out to see if you can free it up some!

But thats just me...it should remail sealed since it's jammed tight down in there, but you do need to be able to bleed it for safety sake at some point - so it has to come out!

Best a luck with it!

Cheers!

Yes i feel your pain, that has happened to me as well. I bled three of the brakes, and when i went to the LR side, i double-wrenched for leverage and spun the fitting right off flush with the face of the caliper. I never ended up flushing that fluid, but it was the shortest side from the tee, and it was just a small amount that i didn't bleed so i didn't worry about it.

I'd try an ez-out first. Some heat would be ok, but don't go overboard with the heat. There are seals in the piston bores that may not like a lot of heat. If that doesn't work, I'd look into getting a new caliper. I don't think they're all that much when you have yours for a core. That would be a quick and easy swap, with little loss of brake fluid.

Yeah, get it out. Don't leave it like that. That's Bush league stuff there. If you have to, pull the caliper to get it out.

break flued dont like heat that much..even with a butane..the flued will expand in the caliper and blow them seals right out...( dont ask ) a new caliper is 80 bucks at napa..comes with every thing but the pads..new clips caliper, pins and the holding bracket..

Sorry to derail

Sorry to derail the thread....but I have to bleed up my rebuilt boat trailer brakes, any day now, and have never heard of "speed bleeders" (cept the last time I shaved some 10 years back!) - can any one point me in the right direction?

Many thanks in advance!

Cheers!

They are brake bleeder valves with a check ball so that the brake fluid goes in only one direction (out) and can not suck any air in on the brake pedel back stroke. Make's brake bleeding a one person operation. Go to speedbleeder dot com and look.

I guess I will wait until it get slightly warmer (11* today) and try backing it out. May also look for two new calipers/rotors for the front if I ruin the caliper trying.

Who makes a good back-out tool? Sears craftsman? NAPA? ??

Does anybody know if I can change only the front calipers, or do I have to do all 4 to be safe. If its all 4, then I will have to get the stuck valve stem out and save up $$.

Just change the one with the broken bleeder. Put you speed nbleeder in the new caliper and rebleed the whole system.

You're right, why spend all that time to remove the broken valve when Its probably is just easier to just replace it with a new caliper (with my luck, it would have gone bad and would still have had to buy a new caliper....)

At least I'll have a good core to give, who knows what shape it would have been in after I got through with it.

All of my local Orielly Auto Parts stores carry the speed bleeders in stock. You might check your local auto parts stores.
