Power stop caliper trouble!

So I installed my brakes today on the rear. Got power stop calipers and brackets and Wagner pads. Looks really good, but the problem is that the passenger side caliper has the bleeder on the bottom. I have looked at their website as well as several others, and they all say that the kit I bought is for a 2000 6.8L 4x4 excursion. The picture of the kit is exactly what I got. If both calipers mounted in front of the axle it would work, but one in front and one behind leaves one caliper with the bleeder on the bottom.

I took the caliper off and hung it with the bleeder on the top to bleed them with a vacuum bleeder, and then reinstalled. Will this suffice or am I going to have trouble with air?

I believe early ones were not handed or mirrored, but identical. So one was leading , one was trailing. Later ones were both trailing/back side.

I do have a leading and a trailing, but the calipers that came off (that were seized) both had bleeder on the top. The replacement calipers I got have one on top and one on bottom. I just wanted to make sure I'm not going to have problems with a bleeder on the bottom.

Finally got my battery situated, started her up for the first time in 2 and a half months, and it smoked like a SOB! Pedal is a little soft, so I'm definitely going to call power stop tomorrow and have them send me the correct caliper. Must be some air still trapped in there somewhere.

I believe the early models had one caliper in front and one in rear of axle. Sounds like they sent you the rear calipers for 01 or whatever year they switches them.

if for what ever reason you can not get a caliper with the bleeder on top then you will need to pull the caliper off and flip it over to bleed it and then reinstall it. the trick is accomplishing the feat with the amount of flexible brake hose you have. you may need to use a spacer block to keep the Pistons and pads in place if you can't flip it over and get the pads onto the rotor.

had a race car we used to have to do this way. total PITA but it gets the job done

The brakes are a little soft, but they work good. I called powerstop this morning and they are sending me the correct caliper for it and a return label to send them back the caliper that is upside down. Should be able to get a better pedal with that.

good deal. the flip method of bleeding sucks.
once you get that air out the pedal will be firmer.

I bled them with a vacuum pump while it was upside down, but I prefer the method of putting a tube in a bottle of fluid, opening the bleeder, and pumping the pedal till there's no more bubbles.

Installed the complete Power Stop kit some months ago. There is a cut off date, mine was manufactured 11/99 and I have the flipped rear calipers. I don't remember the exact cutoff date (if memory serves its 12/99) but its very close to my manufacture date. There is a different Power Stop part number for the flipped caliper prior to the cutoff date. I almost ordered the wrong kit. I had the sales guy from Summit on the phone with Power Stop to confirm we were getting the right thing.... I can get the part number that I ordered if you need it...

Let me know...
