I am having some problems with the transmission slipping on me in my '67 Galaxie. I picked up some Lucas Transmission Fix for it but am confused as to how to use it. It says it can be added to existing fluid without drainning any out. I checked the fluid level first thing and it looks to be maybe as much as an inch over the add mark already. If I add the Lucas isn't that going to overfill it quite a bit?
On a side note, if and when I have to replace the transmission I would love to put a more modern one in with OD for better fuel economy on the highway. What would work with the 390 that's in it.
It may not matter now. Some lady tried to side-swipe me near Broadway and Harry. When I jumped on the breaks to avoid her something broke. I have multiple problems now because when I tried to accelerate away it just went to about 3/4 throttle and hung there. Also the linkage for the trans is all messed up now. I got it into the Wallgreens driveway to check it out and found the fan shroud is all chewed up and I believe it cut one of the transmission lines as well. I'm sure a motor mount broke but I'm affraid it may have tore up the linkage pretty bad. And it couldn't possibly have helped the trans any.
Unfortunately I don't have the time or the money to work on it now so it will be parked for some time. It was also my number one means of tranportation to and from work so I'm not sure what I'm going to do. I have another car that we were going to pick up when this happened but I am having electical problems with it. I can't get the lights working and it need a new alternator.
On the cut transmission line, they aren't real high pressure, so you could probably split the line and use hose to bridge the break and just use hose clamps to keep it in place. I've done that on my old 54 f250 with a 460 and C6 tranny.
Also, readjusting the linkage isn't that hard. You might check the tranny forum here for your transmission and someone will be able to give you the proceedure.
The motor mount is another matter, but still not impossible to change. Good luck with it.
I've delt with broken motor mounts before on a '66 Mercury. The problem is I have no where, no time and no money to fix it. Sometime next spring I may be able to get it in my dads shop but no sooner. And I doubt I can fix it sitting in the weeds beside the shop. The biggest problem with doing it outside in the grass is that I am going to need to hook the hoist up and lift the motor in order to change the mounts and I can't do that in the mud beside the shop.
I guess just to add salt to my wounds it is sitting in an impound yard right now because some police car broke down so Interstate dropped the Galaxie at the impound so they could get the cop car. Now the hydraulics wont work on the rollback so they can't get the cop car off and my car reloaded. So it's going to sit in the impound yard untill sometime Sunday when they can either get the hydraulics fixxed or get another truck there. But they are not willing to give me any kind of discount on the tow. Needless to say, I'm not real happy with Interstate Wrecking at the moment.
Well some times you can change the motor mounts with a block wood and jack, just got done doing mine that way yesterday. It is posable that some of us can get together and held sometime. Carl you can at work Monday or so at 316-524-6002 ask for Clint I can see what I can do on prices.

Well the Galaxie made it to my parents finaly. I'll never to do buisness with Interstate again. The jerk that brought it out couldn't drive worth a damm and ended up backing the Galaxie into a tree. Now I have to get ahold of the owner to get them to pay for the damage. I don't think the damage is that bad but at the least it will need the rear quarter repainted. I wont be able to get out to see it untill next Friday but my brother was there when it happened.
All the help I can get would be great but I need to get it some place where I can even get a jack under it. Where it is now everything (including it) will just sink into the mud. Any of you guys got a shop we could use to work on it. I have access to a trailer to haul it, I just couldn't use it yesterday. I'm free to work on it on weekends but am an amature mechanic at best.
I live in Newton. I have a garage, and good concrete, you are welcome to come by Sunday. (I'll be gone all saturday) 310 estelle (Take the hwy 50 exit west off of the interstate, to the maridian exit, go north on Maridian to the light (its 1st street) turn east 1 block to estelle, go north to 310 --- tan house green trim - white van, blue f150, and a little silver cavalier will be out front or in the driveways. I have a good floor jack and jack stands... but no air compressor (long story)... and limited tools. Clint said today that he could help too, and maybe Duane.
I will find out if we can use the trailer Sunday. Keep in mind, I don't know how much will need to be done to get the car back on the road. If we can't get it going in one day (in your garage) will that be a problem? I will have a closer look at it Friday. If it looks like I will need to replace any of the linkage then it may be a problem. I looked everywhere for replacement throttle linkage a couple months ago and ended up having to fab new linkage.
Yard art is on the trailer and will be gone Saturday :-) Smokey is at Tony's, the '65 is at dad's, the '63 is in dad's shop, and the 90 bII is at Kyle's sister's farm. Hence the reason I cannot buy another truck at the swapmeet....
Shouldn't be a problem to leave the galaxie, if it is only a few days. I need to get somone else's Bii in the shop soon to finish a few things though. We can always find a place to put a galaxie, there is a huge parking lot across the street.
I talked to Chad and told him I could bring my service truck up, I got air, a welder/generator, air powered jacks and a whole slew of tools to play with, If ya need a truck to haul the trailer I can use HOSS or just latch it on behind the service truck.
