Bent Pushrod ???

I have ZERO pounds of compression in the Number 5 Cylinder. I found I have a Very Bent Pushrod. This truck sat for a few years without running. I bought it, got it started. Idled good, but seem to have a miss under power. I drove this truck for about 5 miles around my neighborhood with NO engine noise. Is this possible?? Did a valve possibly get Stuck in the valve guide?? How much trouble am I in for now. ?? Thanks In Advance.

maybe even pushed a valve through the top of the piston.

Check in the engine forum relating to your engine ?

It sat for HOW long? I have a 302 that sat for about a year, and the valves were very sticky in the guides. If I had tried to start it, I'm sure it would have bent a push rod, they being the weakest link in the system. I had to take my heads apart and clean everything to get them going good.

What engine do you have? The 302 underwent a change in the late 60's from solid lifters to hydraulic. The lifter itself could be sticky, too, which would cause ticking until it pumps up. You might need new lifters.

Engine is a 360 original motor. I had put a Mallor
Dist. in and it started clicking as I crank the motor over. Never started. I took the Mallory 3755301 out and put the original Dist. back in .. now it CLICKS loud as I crank it over with the new pushrod installed. ???? Thanks for your help.

You may want to pull both valve covers off and check for other bent pushrods. I've seen them bent just enough to create clearance in the rocker arm. Also while you have the covers off you can spray some penetrating spray at the valve guides. You can also spray carb spray on them to loosen up any gunk and then squirt some fresh engine oil on them. Make sure to change the oil and filter before you drive it if you do any heavy spraying.

Did you run it with fresh gas, or was there still some old gas in the tank? FEs seem to be particulary susceptible to bending pushrods from burning old gas which can virtually glue the valve stems to the guides after it cools off and when restarted those long pushrods can buckle.

I drove it for about 10 Miles with very old gas mixed with some new gas. The old and new gas all leaked out because of a rubber gas line to the aux. tank value started leaking. It ran okay, but seemed to have a miss. I changed the distributor to a Mallory Unilite. At that time I also checked the compression. All cylinders are good BUT the #5 cylinder has NO compression. I rechecked it 5 times with some plugs removed to crank faster, ZERO Compression! ?? I squirted oil in the plug hole and the compression did not increase. I pulled the valve cover off and one value was not moving and I noticed the pushrod was very bent. The pushrod got bent while trying to restart with the new distributor. I thought I might have done something wrong. I did not no anything with the Valve timing, (gear, chain, cover, nothing). Just removed the old distributor, put in the new one, in moments I heard a loud Clicking, then it stopped. I think that is when the valve may have bent. I did get a new pushrod. Put it in... and the loud clicking noise returned. Ever time that valve moves a LOUD Clicking sound again. I have not cranked it since. I thought I better go online and see if someone might be able to give me some experience advice. Thanks For Your Help In Advane.
