I Tried A Post On The Exhaust Forum, But I Don't Think Many Ex Owners Are There. I Have A 2005 V10, Will I Benefit From A Performance Y Pipe Or Is It Just 1999 To 2004 Excursions. I Hear They Modified The Y Pipe On The 2005, But I Am Not Sure. Some May Be Confused With The 2005 V10 In The Superduty Which Has 3 Valve Heads, The 2005 V10 Is A Carry Over, So I Can Not Imagine They Would Change It For One Model Year. I Found One For $80.00.
I wish the 05 got the 3v put in it. I dont think they changed the y pipe on the 05. If they did the only reason i could think of why they did it is because they put the 05 superduty front (grille lights Etc) on the Ex.
Level 10 is right monsta would know about this subject since he has messed with his exhaust system.
I put a Flowmaster Y-pipe in place of the factory restricted T-pipe. The T-pipe (what it really is) is designed that way to cure "flutter" or noises from the odd firing order & can timing of the V10. I now have a bit of flutter at certain RPMs when I really push the gas but it is not harmful or intrusive...especially since I know what it is.
I cannot attest to any power increases from the Y-pipe alone as I installed a Banks Monster exhaust at the same time. Both mods, however, made for a nice increase in the mid & upper rev range with no perceived loss down below. You'll probably experience similar results since you already have a Gibson exhaust installed.
$80 is WAY too much $$. I had mine bought and installed for $80. Search the V10 forum for part numbers. Actually...they may be in my gallery. I got it from Summit.
Those Y-pipes are universal and fit all years of the 2 valve V10. However, early models (99-01 V10s) with the "Ram's head" design Y-pipe don't really benefit from the change.
Flutter will not cause problems. It is just exhaust pulses colliding and making a "fluttering" kinda noise at only certain RPMs.
Read this. Should be everything you ever wanted to know about the subject. If not, a search for the word "Y-pipe" in the V10 forum will turn up hours of reading.
