I had a Ford Y pipe off an 07 F150. It was 2 1/2" in 2 1/2" out. I cut the exit back to where it was the same diameter as a piece of 3" tube I had and welded it. Now to figure out where to cut the stock Y and fit it in place. I will need a cpl curved pieces to line it all up.
I own a 2009 2wd v10 with the 5 speed auto transmission and 4:10 gears with 70,000 miles and have had a check engine light problem (exhaust O2 sensor)for the last 10,000 miles. I do not like the factory Y-pipe configuration and I'm interested in changing out this factory Y-pipe connection. I think I will buy a two into one Y-pipe from Magnaflow, install this in the stock ford exhaust and cut the right and left exhaust pipes behind the cats and fabricate to the dual feed Y-pipe. This will accomplish and even distance from cat to muffler for each engine exhaust feed and I will be able to keep my truck sounding stock with minimal alteration of the exhaust factory specs. And then I'm canning the cold air intake next if this doesn't clear my check engine lite and going to the factory box.. Any input would be appreciated...
smgcrawford, your 2009 v10 is a 3 valve engine and has a good y-pipe configuration and you will not gain anything from a swap. The 2 valve v10s are the ones that benefit from a y pipe swap.
Mr. fordmerc, the only thing I hope to gain in this endeavor is to rid myself of that d#*n check engine lite. I have had this lite since I bought the truck, and suspect that it has a lot to do with the Air Raid cold air intake on the truck when I purchased it. MAF has been cleaned, O2 sensors have been checked and show no signs of malfunction and will operate properly for approximately 50 miles and then the check engine lite will reappear with an exhaust oxygen sensor code. I will however purchase a factory air box before the exhaust change. Again, my only concern is deletion of this check engine lite issue, not performance, but I think the exhaust mod will look cleaner, this truck pulls and operates nearly perfect. Got any ideas on the check engine lite??? Thanxs for ur time.
