48 F2 drop axel vs mono leaf springs
Hey Im dennis, my son and I have a 48 F2. We have it down to the frame except the rear end and drive shaft We want to drop the front and stick with the straight axel. Which would be the best way to go? This is a very big under takeing for us. The 48 came a part easy, putting back together is going to be crazy. looking foward to posting a lot in the next year or 2 0r 3

I would use a dropped axle. Do NOT, repeat, do NOT use mono-leaf springs. If they fail (break), and they do break, then you are down and immobile. Tow it home. With multi-leaf springs, if one leaf fails, the remaining leaves will support the vehicle and you can limp home. So-Cal Speed Shop used to sell mono-leaf springs for the front of their cars. Not any more. They discontinued using them because of broken springs. And broken mono-leaf springs have caused accidents.
I would also replace my old, tired, overworked stock Ford springs with new ones for a better ride. Other people on here will tell you how to set them up for a smoother ride.
Or you could go with an independent front suspension. Dodge Dakota, Mustang II, Jaguar, etc.

Phil has it right, go with the dropped axle and remove every other leaf out of the spring pack or buy a set of lowering springs that are NOT monoleafs.

If you are sticking with the stock type suspension you may want to take a look at this article on converting to power steering: https://www.ford-trucks.com/article/...60_Trucks.html
A Jag IFS swap is nearly a bolt in on your truck. Donors are cheap and easy to find in your neck of the woods.

You could "flip" the axle and put it over the springs. I did that and reversed the spring eyes and dropped a few springs and got 6" of drop for a grand total of $30 for new ubolts.

Of course its not on the road yet, so who knows if it will work!! You will have to relocate the steering box too.
