I went out to look at a couple of salvage yards today and didn't really have a good day. I was looking at the 73-79 trucks and one of the yards only had one truck so I didn't even bother to look and the other one only had a few. What I did find didn't amount to much, but could have if people weren't so careless when taking parts off. I'm pretty much looking at anything salvagable, but when I look at the interior I am always sick on how the dash looks. Many parts look like they were just broken out of the dash in order to get to the part they need. If not for the carelessness, those broken parts would have been nice parts.
I have been keeping my eye out for an early 90s seat and I found one today, but the top of the truck had been cut off and so the seat sat there covered in snow and dirt. Who knows how long it has been there. So the seat pretty much is ruined. I was in good shape also.
I know of one slavage yard (ok junk yard) here in Iowa that has those old '70's Ford trucks as far as the eye can see.... Owner wont be back until March though. Goes south for the winter. I can get you the name if you like.
You can try these guys too... on Long Island, though... But, 15 years ago, they used to drive their own trucks down South and out West and pick up all sorts of trucks in great shape and part them out here. They may have contacts in other states that are useful. They were a pretty driven bunch on people, going back 15-20 years.

I knew two junkyards that had all kinds of good things I would of eventually found a need for and got parts from them, but both of them crushed almost all of their trucks.
One one has 2 trucks left, and they are stripped down.
I finally found another one with twice as many as both of the other 2 yards I had been knowing of, and I got to be friends with the owner, and he lets me take what I want(with in reason, not whole trucks). Oh, and he has a bunch of mud holes around his place to go play in.
Now, I love that place.
There are several of us here on FTE that have ad's in the classifieds.
Plus, some stuff doesn't even get advertised.
It depends on what you are looking for but just ask some of the people with ad's for what you're looking for.
The amount of money one spends on fuel can end up being higher than postage or shipping for something to come to your door.
Better day at the yard.......This one in particular had just one truck, and it was beat up. But the inside wasn't bad. I salvaged a nice headliner (I'll have to paint it), nice chrome headliner trim (once cleaned up, it shined) and really nice shape black seat belts (the shoulder ones and middle ones, exactly what I was looking for). To bad the drivers side on the seat was bad, cuz the rest of it looked great. How hard to reupolster and how expensive?
Anyway, I got the belts, headliner, and chrome trim for $50. Not bad.
Hey Numberdummy It must be like stepping back n time for us non natives out there.I've always meant to get out there, but who ever gets the time.It must take a real bad accident or a blown motor to send a truck to the wrecker ha ?

I had a couple of pals out here from Maryland recently. They both had stiff necks before we got home on the run from the airport (10 miles).
When we went junking..one fellow said.."what's wrong with all this stuff?"
Well, all of those scenario's are better than we have around here. I've called about a dozen junkyard's all but one said, "We don't have anything that old." or "We crushed those years ago." I drove to the site that had a truck and he said that insurance wouldn't allow for me to go and look at the truck, he had to bring it to the front on a forklift and wasn't doing that unless I agreed to spend $100. I said no thanks.
Eric, we have one guy locally to me that has several older F series fords, and I know he had at least 5 78/79 bronco's too pretty much complete last time I looked. I do know he crushed a lot of stuff last year but still had several around after that (I don't think he crushes the older trucks until they are pretty much just shells) If you want that guys number let me know. I won't post it but I will give it to anyone that asks, or I will post the name ifyour interested and want to look it up yourself.
