I have the V-10 and I am going to start off by either getting a intake or a ECU programer (like a Superchips). So which would give me better fuel mialage and power?
No offense, for gas either intake / chip will make any significant difference in MPG. I was you I would buy a good intake first and later chip it (to get more HP).
SPL tech, what year v-10 do you have? If you have the early v-10s (99 up to 04), a y pipe would be a very good mod and might be cheaper or just as much as a tuner or an intake. I dont have one yet but everyone who puts on on there v10 says its an awesome mod. If you look under your Excursion you will see how restrictive it looks. Ford shouldnt even call that a y pipe, it looks more like a t pipe .

mykidsdad i think they kept the same y pipe (t pipe) haha as the 2000 up to 04. Someone correct me if i am wrong? The reason why i think they kept the restrictive y pipe is because they never put the 3v v-10 in the 05 ex. Or did they change the y pipe because they changed the front end of the ex for the 05 model year? If ford did change the the y pipe i would still get it because i was told it makes the car sound different but its not a mod that you would have to do because the 05 y pipe on the superduty is already desgined well. If they didnt change the y pipe out i would get a new one because the old one is really restrictive.
there is some v-10 sound clips in the v-10 forum you can get an idea of the sound you might want from it. i went with a flowmaster 40 and just love the sound from it. some might claim too loud but i like it.
SPL tech- i went just with a drop in K&N filter did the zoodad type thing, made up my own ideas, and am waiting on my tuner to show up. i didn't feel that the $200 difference for about 2 more hp in the CAI systems was worth it to me. the intake system on the v-10's isn't that restrictive to lose so much so save the buck to fill the tank up and get the tuner, you are going to want it when you are done with the system.

I'd love to find a tuner that will et the job done for me. Seems like no one makes one for the '05 V10. I also need one that will work up here in the rockies at over 12000 feet and work with the 85 octane fuel sold up here. Any suggestions.?
mykidsdad, what kind of muffler are you looking for? Are you getting an entire kit or just a muffler? I have a flowmaster 70 series and it sounds awesome not to loud but not to quiet. If you want a sound clip post me because i they dont have a sound clip of a 70 series, but they have an eqiuvlent muffler to a FM70. Ive been meaning to get one posted down there.
Looking at both options. Looks like Gibson is the only cat back system sold off the shelf that will fit the v10 '05 EX. Please let me know if you have seen any other options. Seems like the stock pipe is pretty large diameter as it is so perhaps a muffler will get the job done. I am not looking to make the truck howl like a bancheee but to improve flow so as to hopefully inprove mileage and HP. We live at 7600 feet above sea level here and regularly travel to 12-14 thousand feet. Seems like making the truck breathe easier is goingto be the most cost efficient means of improving performance.
Like I said earlier we have thin air and low octane fuel so if I go with a programmmer it is going to have to be a custom tune. Just not sure if the money will be well spent with an unproven program.
I have a 2002 Excursion. So you think I would be best off chiping it? What is the Y- pipe? Is it the pipe that connects the headers to the main exaust pipe going to the back?
