Since getting my amp, which is an Alpine, all hooked up and in, I get a loud pop when changing songs on a CD, switching radio stations, turning the volume to zero, taking the CD out, etc. Anything that causes a sudden stop in the music. Cutting the amp power (turn out wired via switch) does not produce the pop.
I'm looking for a way to correct it. I've played with several things on the amp and HU, checked all grounds, all seem good.
I think it comes from the headunit. my system does the same thing. i bypassed the amps, and it still cracks. I find it kinda annoying, but i think it's the electronic noise created by preforming a channel switch, or a making an input (it will also make this noise if i press any buttons actually.) i can hear a clicking noise when i rotate the volume ****.
If you find a fix, please post. So far the only idea i've had has been to put a rather large (.5 farad) capacitor before the amp. haven't tried it yet.
also, i lost my owners manual in my accident, could you tell me what you fuse number is for your radio.
I wish I could turn off my truck to just listen to the radio but I have to remove a fuse to stop the annoying-ding, ding, ding, ding, ding, ding when I use the trucks battery...
I cut the wire in my truck to the chime thing...then realized that was a recipe for locking the keys in the truck or leaving the headlights on...
...so I ended up re-wiring everything so the dome light and chime are controlled by a switch under the dash when the door is open...simple and hidden...and all I gotta do is reach down and flip the switch and voila...I can prop both doors open and listen to the radio.
Grounds are seperated. Estimated 3 day or less reply time from that website...I'll let ya'll know.
hey ranger, sometime in the spring if everything goes accordingly, I should be able to pay for training and who knows, maybe we will pass each other by, by lets say a couple of thousands of feet? LOL... ill be on a parachute turned wing and of course you will be in your plane..
It doesn't do it when I press buttons or adjust the volume. And it never did it before the amp install.
The radio and amp should have seperate grounds, correct?
Absolutely not! You want each to have the best ground possible, effectively making them the same ground.....Your battery just has one NEGATIVE terminal. It's extremely important the the ground and power connections have the lowest impedance (resistance and inductance) possible!

I doubt it would matter how many grounds he has. as long as he's not running too mant ampers through one wire. if he has a bunch of grounds, then he will have to work harder to keep up good connections.
btw: the skies will only get more dangerous out there in july... I'm going to be moving down there to get my ATP cert.
Jeez...you guys just avoid the area around Durant, OK...I'll be flying there in college (got accepted!).
Update:
Cleaned and checked all grounds. Tried multiple settings on the radio, disabled the non-amp powered speakers, unhooked the sub, checked all wires, and enlarged the ground by another size. Furthermore, checked the wires of the "Big 3" upgrade which I did last summer...all were fine and in good shape.
