Have a seal that is leaking from the top of the gear box where the shaft enters the box. They tell me there is no replacement seal sold for this. So I'm going to replace the gear box tonight. Anything I need to look for or watch out for?Seems to be faily straight forward Three bolts, two lines, pitman arm and a rag joint.
Sorry about the spelling (Streeing). Yes it is P/S and yes it is the truck in my profile. Been working on it for about a month. This is my last leaking part for now. Truck is rust free straight body. Will have in new paint by mid Feb. Runs strong no smoke.
I've gone to four different auto parts including the ford dealer with each one telling me this particular seal is not available. Not even in a kit. The steering (I'm going to get it right) gear box was $139.00.

Because you have been asking for A seal, you've been told no seal available.
Seal not available by itself, but seal kits are.
There are two seal kits, one upper, one lower. These kits have been available since day one.
D7AZ-3E501-A Upper Seal Kit
D7AZ-3E502-A Lower Seal Kit.

Sad Fact: Don't expect most Ford Dealers Parts Depts to be of much help today, if it's more than a few years old, they don't want to bother.

Bill I see you are a retired Ford Partsman. I hope to retire from this business some day. I've worked in Ford dealerships for 32 years starting as a delivery driver in Santa Barbara California back in 1974. I still enjoy it and look forward to coming to work each day. Of course that could be because it's all I really know.

I had to give it up in 1997...medical issues. Started in 1962.
Can't recall the SB dealers name...where are you now?
Thanks guys for the info. Found the seal kit. How do you get the seal off the input shaft? Oh yeah I'll be returning the gear box tomorrow. Thanks again.
Bill,
The dealer in Santa Barbara was Thompson Fauskee Ford. I'm sure I dealt with Larry at RO Gould but can't remember for sure. I did work with a guy for a while at Poeschl LM in SB that came from Crenshaw his name was Chaz Stevens. In 1984 I went to work for Vista Ford in Woodland Hills and we made daily stops at Crenshaw and Sachs & Sons to pick up parts the LA depot didn't stock.
