I hear about cam phazer problems, how loud is it that you know its a cam phazer? My 2004 has always seemed loud to me, but 39,000 miles later still seems fine? I even braught it back when it was new they said that the 5.4 liters are loud because lighter weight valve covers.

 

sounds like a diesel when it gets bad. cam phaser knock is only noticable at operating temp (quiet when cold). be careful, some dealers may try to dodge repairing it under warranty (mine didn't FYI). the cost is around $1,200.00 if you have it done out of warranty. my advice, get a 2nd opinion.

 

what damage can this cause if not fixed? Mine has kind of a diesel sound i guess, more noticeable at drive throughs. But its been like this since new and seems to run fine.
