Our 2008 Lincoln Mark LT started making this noise about 3 weeks ago, but it only does it very intermittently. Its only happened a handful of times since. It does it at very low idle when in gear, and seems to show up when backing up. I can give it a little gas and it goes away. I was able to finally catch the noise on video last night. From all the videos and threads I have seen, this sounds different from a cam phazer. Anyone have any ideas?

VCT solenoids, Just posted on another thread the same problem. No codes but in reverse after workout it lugs and sputters and sounds like a Kenworth.. Changed VCT's problem solved. Original VCT has a screen that comes apart and plugs the solenoid. New generation solves problem.

 

What is a VCT & where is it located? Are they on the 4.6L also? Just curious since I have a 4.6L in my 99 CV P71.
