Thanks for that info I have yet to really look at 6.0 up close. I have alum end tanked 7.3 but was thinking I would go for a 6.0 becasue of others recomendations.
so which cooler is better the aluminum end tank 7.3 or the plastic end tank 6.0? I would think the aluminum end tank 7.3 one because it can handle more boost.
The 6.0 ic is 30% larger and can handle about 50psi boost. Guys in the 99-03 forum upstairs are replacing their ics for the 6.0 so that tells me something.
I have no practical experience on this only what I have heard from others. I have never heard of a plastic end tanked 7.3 or 6.0 blow up becasue of boost levels under 50psi, since the vast majority of us will never ever see that then we can pick any one. Now I will say that quite a few of the 7.3 superduty folks have switched to a 6.0 intercooler and have seen a little better results. I bought my alum end tanked one before all the 6.0 had been out long enough for people to start upgrading and selling them resonabley like now. In my plans for the future are bigger injectors and turbo so I decided when I did it I was going to use the biggest I could get ahold of affordable a 6.0.
So my little conclusion is that if you haven't bought one try to get a 6.0 if you find a good deal on a 7.3 yank it up anything is better than nothing. If you ever have enough power to blow one up you probably need a spearco or whatever is out then.
Allright guys, these last several posts, all have the same thing in common. Info on parts/directions for the pre 1999 7.3 intercooler install. My question is, Do i need to do this, is it a performance increase,or just a safer boost thing? I know cooler air means more power, but how much really?
My current set up is a 97 f350 dually 107k, 3.5" dp, 4" straight exhaust, diy intake kit, ts performance 6 pos chip. All this together "almost" makes more power than i feel is not gonna break something, any more power i think this heavy truck will start breaking stuff..... "i think its just too heavy to pull this hard"
The intercooler install is just to help manage your egts at a safe temp. You will be able to run the truck harder for a longer period of time. Also great for towing with higher hp chip programs. mmmm..... this is next on my list of things to do.
Anyone know of any more y pipes or spider pipes up for grabs or that will be anytime soon? Its all I'm lacking now for the 6.0 ic install. Its killing me! My 6637 will be here monday but that will only hold me for so long! Thanks in advance!
Aaron
best thing you can do is cruise ebay. just search powerstroke (give a responsible party the check book so you don't buy more than a y-pipe) and keep looking. one will pop up but if its buy it now you had better buy it cause there are alot of guy looking.
