I'm looking to replace the "stock" shocks on my 2000 EX V10 4x4, and was hoping to get a few "brand" suggestions from the knowledgeable forum. I've been browsing various sites, and 3 brands kept coming up (Bilstein/Skyjacker/Rancho). I guess what I'm really looking for is, "what has worked best for you"? I also think I may need to replace the steering stabilizer.
So far, the only problem I had with a Bilstein shock is that when my CCV fumes were blasting on it, it might have stressed some seals and caused it to leak. Something that Bilstein replaced anyways. Other than that, I have them on my Vette, Ex and MB and love them
Thanks to everyone that replied. I found some Bilsteins online for $247 incl. shipping.
Have a great day!
Jay
You *******. I paid more than that.
My advice to you would be to go get 4 new Clip Nuts for the shocks. Those are the ones that your bolt will screw into on the top. You might break or weaken them enough for them to break later. Ask me how I know.
Aklim,
Thanks for the Clip Nut advice. Would I get these at the dealership, or any auto parts store? By the way, any idea what the torque should be on these components?
Ford should have them. Reason is that I broke a few taking them out. The salt from the road corroded them all in. After installing them it seems the nut got broke by the bolt or whatever. I saw a couple hanging out so that is why I suggested changing all of them
I know im in for a bashing here. I have used bilstein on other vehicles Ive owned and were very happy with them. But a friend was using Rough county rsx9000 on his truck that he tows with and said they were excellent. I put them on my early 99 dually and was amazed how well they worked, even when towing my 9200lbs tt. I like them so much I put them on my Ex. Im not bashing Bilstein at all, but I didnt see any benefit in buying them for the money difference.

a. How much money difference?
b. How long and how good is their warranty? See my post #2 here. Also, the warranty is lifetime. How does that stack up to Rough County?
