I know im in for a bashing here. I have used bilstein on other vehicles Ive owned and were very happy with them. But a friend was using Rough county rsx9000 on his truck that he tows with and said they were excellent. I put them on my early 99 dually and was amazed how well they worked, even when towing my 9200lbs tt. I like them so much I put them on my Ex. Im not bashing Bilstein at all, but I didnt see any benefit in buying them for the money difference.
Help me understand what you are describing. I thought Rough Country is a manufacturer of lift kits and the RSX9000 is the model number of a Rancho shock. The Rancho shock is about the same price as the Bilstein shock. Right?
Direct from Rough Country 34.95 per shock with boot. The warranty is lifetime as well. I can tell you that it was a major improvement over the stock shocks. Again Im not bashing Bilstein at all. But I didnt see a difference in the rides to account for the extra $100 for the set. Im not frugal or cheap either, I just spent $700 on the AFE stage 2, guages and a BTM, as I do take the advice of the great readers of this forum. Im hoping someone else will back me up on these shocks.
Rough Country has shocks as well. I do stand corrected though they are Nitro RC9000. Thanks for correction, I have to change my sig too. http://www.roughcountry.com/shocks-9000.htm

They were $61.75 a shock delivered fromthe other guy so I don't know. It is cheaper so if the ride is the same and the reliability is the same where you don't have to fix it every year or so, that sounds like a bargain.
Just so I am sure ... Bilstein only offers 1 model of shock for either the 4x2 or 4x4 right? That is what I gleaned from their application guide on the web site ...
I am looking at Gabriel mono-tubes from my local Les schwab dealer for $325 installed and they have a lifetime warranty.. They also handle the Bilsteins, but he suggested these..What is anyone's experience with these???
I was wondering if you mount these shock with the piston down. I got a freebie deal for some F350 springs Bilstiens and a pretty good set of tires. "Just get them out of my garage" Zero Dollar price! (I traded the tires to the neighborhood kid for a full summer of lawn mow-ens).
Last week I mounted the shocks and the mounts would only fit if I inverted them.
Right now they are a little long, but when I complete my spring swap and they should be just about right.
One problem, I had to press the upper mount pin out of the stock shocks and press it into the new shocks.
Hmm... Did someone say something about a warranty?
just installed Bilsteins and Hellwig rear sway bar last weekend. All 4 stock shocks were completely blown at only 50K miles. Thought the Bilsteins might be harshers but the ride has significantly improved as is handling. Also from eshocks.com...
Just replaced Monroe Reflex that had 60,000 miles on them with Bilstein and a new Pro Comp steering stabilizer to complete my V code and F code spring replace project. Monroes were stiffer and so far the Bilsteins seem to be firm yet smoother over a rough road.
I too was puzzled about "inverting" them on the front but they would only go on one way and I didn't think Bilstein would put lettering on them upside down when mounted.
