have not posted here in a while due to being iced in and busy scraping driveways, but back to the swing of things. my 71 f-250 has a small power steering leak coming from the seal around the input shaft. truck has been setting, so i am sure it is dried out. is there anything to swell this seal, or is it difficult to replace. dont want to take it off onlyto find it looks like a swiss watch when i get it apart. anyone?
um....well.....I can tell you this...I had to have mine "rebuilt" to get it operational....doing so required finding a "donor" pistol as well as my original, and paying an additional $495 to have a new center piston fabricated at a CNC shop, as the two originals were too pitted to reuse. The assembly process for the piston at the shop took almopst two weeks....as they must weld "soft" metal to "hard" metal and can only do about 3/4 " at a time before setting the piece in a bucket of sand to cool.
When I asked around....I was told there were no more parts available...but obviously the PS shop found some somewhere that worked.

Unimog, I hope your pump is different than mine...$52.99 with exchange at my local O'Reilly auto parts store. And they have it in stock. Cardone Industries pn# 20-6098.

Sorry guys, I haven't had any coffee yet. After rereading the posts, I see your talking about the steering gearboxes. And yes, those 3/4 ton ram assist steering systems are unique.
I may have mislead someone on my post. the leak is not on the pump itself, but on the steering box. the leak is on the end where the steering shaft from the column goes in. pump and hoses are fine. seen new boxes listed fairly cheap, but wanted to prolong mine as much as possible. know the seal is dried out from setting, but dont know how hard it is to change. sorry about the mis-info
