thats normal..happens all the time...most likely umbrella type.

so, what we know....

they are not the good early heads because of the spark plug....
they have been machined for screw in studs
and you have rail type rockers.

did you see the questions Conanski had?

yes rail type. why wold some one put a stroker kit in this motor go 60 over and use cheap heads ?? also why would some one convert to stud mount and not do any other work to the heads and the exaust port has a thing in side the the port like a smog bump but not a bump a slope and they dont look ported on the exaust side would someone only port the intake side .also i compaired the spark plugs to my e7s and the heads are stubyer on the spark plug and the ones in this the plugs are longer .

REALLY need casting numbers from under the intake. They may not be "cheap" heads after all. If they're 68-76 302 heads, they could have 53.5, 58.2, or 63cc combustion chambers. The reason for converting to screw in studs is to keep the studs from pulling out because of higher spring pressures, usually associated with a more aggressive than stock camshaft. COST is usually the reason for NOT having port work done, if the person building the engine is not confident or knowledgeable enough to do it themselves. It is VERY labor intensive, especially with cast iron, and can be very expensive to have done correctly. Spark plugs will vary with combustion chamber size and design, piston design (dome or flat top) etc.

It may be a surprise to you, but most of the internal parts at first glance, DO look like similar parts of a Chevy. The valves and springs are interchangeable in some cases. Even Chevy connecting rods can be used in certain circumstances. A C9 head can either be a C9TE 302 head or the highly desireable C9OE 351W heads. Look under the valve covers for either. (302 or 351) Only thing that I question is the spark plug size. Should be 13/16" plugs, unless the engine's an oil burner (uses too much oil) and the previous owner installed anti-oil fouling inserts in the heads.
