Column shift part number ID

1975 F250 390 w/3spd auto
My truck will not shift into first by the column lever. I believe the upper flange or column was replaced with wrong parts but need the part number checked.
The one on my truck is D4TA-3511-DWA I am thinking it is for a 2spd tranny shift.
Am I correct in my assumption??

D3TZ-3511-D Flange, Upper steering column A/T

The number you listed is the engineering number, not the part number. There are two of these listed for a 1975...one for an A/T, one for a M/T.

When did the problem start? Did you recently replace this flange?

What normally goes wrong is: Bushing is worn on shift lever at bottom of steering column where trans linkage attaches, or the shift collar is broken internally.

These are common problems on Ford trucks.

There is no such thing as a 2 speed tranny shift.

I recently purchased this truck. The shifter will not go all the way to the 1 position.
When shifting I have to pull lever towards me and rotate to release park and go into R, from there it will rotate into N and D without pulling, I pull again to get 2 and pull again and it only goes 1/3 of the way to 1

The column is black except lower flange is blue, which is trucks color. This is why I was thinking the column may have been changed.

The arm that comes out of the column where linkage hooks up to hits the end of the slot. Limiting its travel towards 1. Must have been put in wrong. I am going to adjust linkage I think it was done wrong. I will post back in a few minutes

Does any one know how the shift fork attaches to the shift column? Is it splined or just keyed? Is it possible for it to be off one gear position?

My problem is that in park there is room for the fork to move farther CCW but when trying to shift to 1 it hits the end of the slot in the shift tube limiting its travel CW.

There is an elongated hole in the shift fork that slides over the flattened area of the shifter shaft then slides into the notched out area of the tube

According to the picture in this post https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/s...38&postcount=8
The fork hits the end of the slot in the steering column assembly limiting its travel in the downshifting direction.
Is this possible? Do I have a truck built on Friday?
What is the best way to remove linkage arm from shift fork without destroying the bushing?

The interference is noted on the picture. Seems as though the fork is not in proper position on shift tube but from your description it doesn't sound like it can be off one gear. It has plenty of clearance to move past Park but detent on upper flange stops its travel but when shifting to first the slot stops its travel.

Thanks for all your help so far.

It may have turned on the shift column and wedged/seized there when it was moved to Park position.

I pulled the upper flange and was able to get the shift tube free from shift fork so it isnt seized. When I put it back together the fork fits right back in the same position. I am truly baffled at this point. I haven't pulled the whole column out since it is merely an annoyance and I can still drive it. Thinking I will bust out the dremel and enlarge the slot or something.
As my luck would have it though, I broke off the pointer thingy that moves the starter interupt switch inside the firewall.
Anyone know which wires I should jump to bypass the switch for the time being?
