Question Lower EGT's?

Just curious. You all talk about having the bigger exhaust lowering egt's. I haven't noticed any reduction, and possibly a 25 degree rise. Is the reduction in egt's only noticed while towing? I mean, the justification for spending the $$$ was better milage and prolonging trhe life of my turbo. I just want to make sure that I don't have some other issue before heading cross country.

Check for boost and/or exhaust leaks. If you put on a bigger exhaust and still have higher egt's, something is wrong.

before winter set in, regular driving was between 300 to 400 deg.
highway at 65 mph was about 500 to 550 deg.
towing 13K at highway speeds was between 600 to 750 deg.
towing 13K from a dead stop up a slight hill reaching 55 mph was 900 deg.

currently with cold front on,,,,,,,,,,,,in town regular is 400 to 500 deg. and highway is 600 to 650 deg. with average outside temp of 10 deg.

Unless your foot is in it further so you can hear that cannon rumble.

My numbers are just under bigtorque's, with the 5" i see about 500-550 at 70 on the interstate.

25*???? Mine reads in the 100s. Anyway, since you must have really been paying attention to it, did you get a chip too or have your foot in it as mentioned?

If you just got the system and it is now cold out and you have higher egts, may want to check the EBPV system.

I say 25 degrees cuz there are little dashes between the hundreds. Yes I have a superchip set at towing perf. I do have a slight exhaust leak at the flange on the drivers side near where the pyro gets tapped in. That was going to be another question today. That flange doesn't look like there's any type of gasket there. It looks like the pipe is just flared and cranked tight to the manifold. What can I do for this? Luckily, even though the bolts are all rusted it looke like they'll be easily replaced as opposed to the old style that are tapped in and snap when you try to pull them. Next question, the EBPV, where is it, what does it look like, what does it do? I did notice yesterday, that even after hitting running temps that I was getting that HISSSS at certain throttle levels. LIke you get first thing in the morn. By the way, EGT's are at about 600+ in town and 750+ at 70. Thank for the insight

I would check for boost leaks. Make sure all your IC boot clamps are tight.

im not too sure about your up pipe problem..all i know is there is no gasket but ive heard some say that a chevy donut gasket works..but im not sure about this..

when you had you down pipe off.you could have looked in to the turbo and seen the EBV....at the base of the turbo in the vally you will see a flat plug with a wire clip on it to lock it in place..its tight in there but you can unlock the clip and pull on the plug..that will disconect the ebv but you will get codes ....id try to clean the tube the EBPS 1st that will make it close up on you when its not sapost to be....

Dmueller Those temps do look a tad high compared to what I see, but keep in mind that just because to needle on the dash goes to the NOT possition the PCM is allowed to controll the EBPV until the Oil Temp reaches 167*F which is quit a while after the gauge moves. jtharvey drove around town for 30 minutes before his warmed up that much.

The EBPV is just inside where you hooked the downpipe to the turbo. there is a small accuating rod on the bottom that connects to the rear to the turbo, they have been known for sticking though.

The Uppipes have crush donuts in them to seal

I just pulled the plug on the EBPV this week didn't like the way it kicked in and out or the sound through the straight pipes. It doesn't seem to make to much of a difference in warm up time down here its only been down in the 20's & 30's this week.I know it will throw a code but if that bothers you ,there are code eliminators.

On those up pipes when we put cookies new engine together he put some kind of high temp copper looking sealant on the pipes then the crush rings I don't think he's had a leak sofar.
