My pickup has all new brake lines, wheel cylinders, shoes, master cylinder, brake booster and Vacc. hose. I bleed the brakes using a hose and a coke bottle to check the bubble bleed off on the cylinders. With all the all out of the lines, I have great brakes and a full pedal. It even holds great long as I am applying pressure. But release the pedal and try again, the pedal almost goes to the floor. After pumping again, the pedal is up and holds. What do you think the problem is,or could be ? I know a person can buy new stuff, finding out its no good also. Someone said I might have a line leak, but none show a leak. Besides it there was a leak, when you pump it up it would know be solid and hold. The pedal would go down.
The truck has 4 wheel drum brakes new shoes, wheel cylinders, and springs. Also the front and rear brakes are adjusted tight, any more the drum won't turn. Its a puzzle to me. If I pump it 2 times,it will have a full pedal. Also hold that away until,I take my foot off. Then if I just push once it will go to the floor. Pump 2 times and I have a full firm pedal.
Sure sounds like there is air in the system to me.
You're best way to bleed the brake system is to have another person with you. Make sure you keep the master cylnder full of clean fluid.
One person to open and close the bleeder valve between every pump.
Start at the right rear, then the left rear, right front, then the left front.
Make sure all brake shoes are adjusted properly. Should have just a little bit of drag when spinning the wheels.

The master cylinder was benched bleed, and bleed after installed. Also I did have someone pumping the brakes while I bleed each of them, starting with the right rear. After each wheel the master cylinder was refilled, never got more then half low on fluid.
Yes I used only new clean fluid a 32 oz bottle and a half of another bottle.
Ok ! I have been reading what you and the guys wrote and I would like 2 give you my 2 cents. But first, I like to ask something. I'm thinking the guys are figuring its a later model truck 70s up , but not me. I think its old truck, pre 60 from what you say. Is it ??? If thats the case I have 2 both big early 50s myself. And the system is a little diffrent in the early models. Give me or us the year and size and I will explain. Tracy
Thanks Tracy and guys It was the copper washers, causing a very small leak. One had a very small bur. I replaced them this morning and bleed the system. Got great brakes. I did not even know the brake system had copper washers in it. It was so weird, I checked the whole system for brake fluid leaks, there was none. Does yours have the same system. Lots of brake lines, mine has 5 lines coming off of the master cylinder alone. Thanks again
