I tried to drain my HFCM and couldnt get the screw to budge- the 6mm allen wrench started to twist. What type of aftermarket petcock do you recommend? What is the procedure for installation? It seems as if I could just drill out the old screw and re-tap the hole with a larger size. Any info would be appreciated.
Get this after market plug from IH dealer, $15. Tap out the bad stocker and replace with it. It hooks in so won't fall out and helps drain fuel straight down. Made of brass and doesn't strip, if it ever does you have the knerled edges to grip.
I purchased mine from the International Dealer. $13.50 plus freight of 4.00. I had no problem in removing the plug. When you drill out the old plug diesel will pour out.
When you get the new brass drain plug have a set of fuel filters on hand. Remove the HFCM cap and do the plug removal on the work bench. Too tight to do anything inplace. If a allen wrench can't remove it on the work bench you can try to tap the edge of the plug in a counter clockwise direction while clamping the cap securely. If that doesn't work, drill a hole in the old plug and use an ease out to remove the old plug. That way you don't screw up the threads. Change the filters and your done. Good luck.
Unless I am remembering something wrong the plug isn't in the cap. It is in the side of the HFCM. If you have a 4x4 it would be a pain. If it is a 2 wheel you may have an easier time. You should be able to tap in an easy-out and remove it it needed.
Thanks for the info everyone! I have a 4x4 so just my luck, if I remember right getting the old plug out and retapped should be easy (I am a machinist) but getting at the plug will probably be a adventure. It is too cold to look at it now, I will check it out sat.after work. at least I know what parts I need. Thanks again.
I did mine and it is 4x4, no worries. Some say to lift the front left wheel w/ a jack and it helps get the drive shaft out of the way but I didn't need to.
Cap is at the rear end of the unit (truck) while the drain plug is on the inside (truck) of it. Use extensions to get at the cap.
