does anyone know where i could get a nice but cheap tool box for my 2001 ford ranger. single or dual lids doesn't matter. liek to pay less than 150 bucks. i'm in oceanside california if anyone is close or if you know of somewhere online to get one. thanks in advance
see my sig for the box i built. it was $150 for BOTH boxes, and another $150 for the linex to cover them. custom look, twice the boxes at 1/2 the price
I bought one locally off e-bay for $30 for my F250. You just have to keep an eye out for those type of deals. Also try your local Craigslist as mine always shows diamond plate style ones for Rangers for under $100 all the time.
Nice job on the custom box. Can you give us some details on how you constructed it, in particular, do you have it secured to the bed? It may be appropriate to start another thread so as to not hijack the original poster's question.
Papa's 64:
Before I went to college I bought one of the black hard plastic tool boxes so I would have a place for luggage and other stuff when travelling back and forth from school and home. I think I paid about $169. I think you're best bet to find quality at your desired price is to find a good used box. Or, if you are interested in plastic, Delta makes boxes that look more like a chest than a toolbox that are in that price range. They look like a big drink cooler, but might function just as well as an aluminum tool box, depending on your intended use.
thanks, i submitted an article about it 2 weeks ago that they said they'd get up. it's pretty detailed with measurements and a lot of pics and stuff. as far as securing it to the bed, i tried to put some detailed descriptions in my picasa album in my sig.
I purchased a black delta poly gullwing from Pepboys for $99 new in Sept 2006. Not the greatest but I wanted space for oil, rope, coolant, flashlight, general truck stuff, etc. I do not use it for contractor tools and the like. I like it but it would not take much to break into.............
2002 3.0 Ranger Edge
FYI: I did not have to remove bed rail protectors that come on the EDGE either, but they do make the fight tighter.
