put this thread in your favorites list. A year down the road and click on your favorites, and click on the thread. For threads relating to info I need for my truck, I save them for future reference. If I get more info I may add to the thread, be it a year later or so, even though similar threads may be going on.
loholland...threads get stored for several years here. Somebody new coming along might go hunting for info, and add to a post from a few years ago, and it brings the thread back to the top of the forum. But really, if anybody can get more info out of the thread, then no big deal, as long as it can be of use to somebody.
I agree with Gary. When I first started here a couple of moths ago I went through most of the posts in the archive. Lots of good info out there. Sometimes I think it is far more important to tag to an old post to let you oldtimers know that we look through the stuff you already posted (sorry Gary I guess its kindof weird being called an oldtimer by someone almost twice your age).
As an example, with the problems I was having figuring out how many trucks/cars were used to make my truck I came across this very old post by Carlene:
So if anyone goes out there you will notice with all the info on the VIN numbers now out there, Carlene's thread was never finished. I never thought it was my place to finish it, but it would be nice for the newbies like me to get it done, because just about every newbie is going to have a question about the I / 1 and most of us will eventually get out to the old posts. But if I finish that old post it brings it to the top again.
So personally I like to see old posts resurrected -- it just shows that the users are actively searching for answers, they just need a different explanation of what was posted.
Of course I get the lazy award for starting a new thread on front springs -- I am sure this question was asked a million times (but my excuse is that we don't currently have the search function :-)
You folks are correct, there is a lot of information through out the threads, I have used the search function many times when I need info. I'm 65, retired and building my first truck, so bear with me. I'm having the time of my life.
classic auto parts, oklahoma city, kanter, ??????????, LMC, kansas city , and I have had wonderful luck at my local parts houses, NAPA, federated, parts plus, carquest, o'rileys, auto zone. I also spend a lot of time at speciality houses looking for fastners, gasket suplies, and other little parts. I have found that most of the wear parts are still manufactured, you just need somebody who is willing to work with you to find them.
The other advise I can give is to learn as much as you before you go looking, knowing all the information, and where it goes, and what it does makes a lot of difference, patience will also make a big difference. the one you took out can also help. they can quite often compare to diagrams in thier catalogs.
the parts counter will ussually help, but they are not going to spend all day helping you find and order $3.00 part when they can be selling $5.00 light bulbs off the shelf. I ussually try to get to the parts store mid morning, they tend to be less busy, and more willing.
hope I havn't just rambled here, and this helps. let me know if I can help in any other way.
Howard
Try posting a want ad over on the classifieds section of this site, you might get some luck there. I have seen these beds come up on eBay now and then, just a matter of being patient. Also try fordbarn.com and post a want ad, you might get lucky there too.
