Question on Title/Motor #

LAST EDITED ON 20-Feb-01 AT 12:34 PM (EST)[p]LAST EDITED ON 20-Feb-01 AT 12:27 PM (EST)

Ken -

I read one of the other posts where you said that the 1st # of the Title/Motor is for the year. We have the title and the number on it is almost clearly 1GC23574. I but the almost in there because last weekend when I was sandblasting the frame, I found the #'s etched there (as they should be) but the frame clearly has and "I" instead of a 1. It is shown as IGC-23574. First - which is correct.
Second - My hubby said to title it using the "I" since if it needs to be inspected again for tags, then that is the # we would show them. (We're not turning in the original 1941 title.)

Any opinion would be appreciated.

Thanks - Carlene

After reading this on the message board, I noticed that the "I' shows up as just a straight line. The message types in with a different font than is shown on the message board. The frame does not have just a straight line that we assumed is an "i". The "i" on the frame has the straight line with a top & bottom of equal size.

Question on Title/Motor #

Hi carlene, my post about the first digit of the vin # being the year was in regard to a 1947. For 1941 though, my book shows the same. The first 3 numbers of the vin. standing for the year and model:
1NC = 1/2 ton - 112" w.b - four
1GC = 1/2 ton - 112" w.b - six
11C = 1/2 ton - 112" w.b.- V-8/85 hp.
19C = 1/2 ton - 112" w.b.- V-8/95 hp.
The book also shows the serial numbers for 1940 starting with "0", and 1942 serial numbers starting with "2". I'm not real familiar on these years, and some books are known to be wrong at times. In my honest opinion, I really believe it should be a "1" from what I've seen in the book. I hope this helps you.
Kenny

Question on Title/Motor #

Kenny - thanks for the info. I printed out your reply to take to the title office with me. Nowhere near ready for the tags but want to get the title started anyway.

Thanks again.

Question on Title/Motor #

FYI - In case anyone else tries to get their old ford titled based on the # stamped on the frame.

We decided to go with the # that was stamped on the frame which started with the "letter i" since that is what gets seen - - - what a mistake.

The DMV knows that Fords begin with a number instead of a letter so they wouldn't title on my first try. Had to either take a stencil of the # imprinted on the frame on the State's form and inspected by an authorized state official - or - have the original paperwork redone and recertified.

We had the paperwork redone using the "number 1" and no problem getting it through. The title is now in the works.
