I need to change an axle seal. I've done this on a old mustang and a chevy truck, I'm not sure how to remove the axle from my 97 f150 with a 8.8 limited slip rear end. Does anyone know how to pull the axle so I can get my leaky seal out to replace it. Any help will be appriciated. Thanks
The Haynes manual has a decent description of the procedure. As you'll be able to tell from the link, I was unaware that it's possible to have the spider gears "drop" out if you spin the axle after you remove the pin. It wasn't a big deal, just something to be careful of. I chose to put the pin and bolt back in after I pulled the axles just to be safe. It was probably overkill. I took some pictures, but I don't see any way to attach them. I'll try to put them in my gallery and let you know if it works.
Pics are in my gallery, but I couldn't figure out how to label them. The "tool" pictures are what I used for the bearings, you can ignore those if you're just doing seals.
