4x4 problems

I have a 95 Bronco. I just got it a month or so ago. Everything on this one is perfect. But we got a bad ice storm this past weekend and i decided to try out the 4 wheel drive. It has the electronic button 4x4 and autolocking hubs. When i gave the truck gas the front wheels did not spin and they made a grinding noise or a clicking noise like they were tryin to engage. We looked under the truck while givin it gas and all the shafts were spining but they tires were not. Any tips or known problems?

Yep, they're called auto-locking hubs. Big failure part on all the Fords from this era. When mine went out, the dealer quoted $230 for each side. I bought a pair of Warn Premiums for $90. You can go either route, but most decide on the manual hubs because they are stronger, and when you engage them, you know without a doubt they are engaged. The auto hubs have a high failure rate, and you won't know they're shot til you need them.
